[Mk2] [NA] rewiring the stereo system HELP!

Post by billyboy1990 »

hey ive read most of the stuff on the internet about bypassing the original inoying amps in my mr2, and it seems the best way to do this is to rewire the speakers and just use the built in amp in an aftermarket sterio...

i have no problem getting ma hands dirty and doing some trial and error but i have no idea what wires to use and how to connect it all together at the head unit end..

e.g.. how many cables to each speaker how do i connect the plug for the sterio, and how do i power the stereo.

also how do i have my new set up ready for an aditional amp and subwoofers for behind the seats?

any advice would be great thanks..

I'm about to do the same job.

Depends on the connections behind the current stereo. If it still has the toyota connector on or iso plug it will be easy.

Mine will have the standard toyota connector so i will purchase a toyota to iso lead. I'll then figure out which wires on the new lead are fed from the speaker outputs on the stereo. This is where i will splice into with the new speaker cables for the new speakers. This way you keep the stock connector.

Two wires, (speaker cable) to each speaker, + and - .
