[Mk2] [Turbo] safe boost to run with standard internals?

Post by GTMatt »

i've just purchased a rev3 and the boost controller has 2 settings 1 of which is set at 0.65 bar and the second at 1.13
i was under the impression standard they ran bar so i pressume an increase of approx. 2psi is safe can anybody confirm this for me?
cheers
(sorry if this is a very newbie question, just want to start learning the cars properly)

stock boost is normally about 10 psi, which would be about 0.65 bar. a stock engine should manage 1.13 bar without any issues

1.2bar is the max that is normally recommended if you have an uprated Intercooler or chargecooler.

The boost you are on should be safe as they run pretty rich on boost and rev3 has a metal head gasket.

should be able to nock it up to 1.2 bar depending on your mods and what turbo your running.

rev3 has a metal head gasket.

Do rev 3 cars have metal head gaskets as std?

well thats definitely for rev 1/2's. rev 3's had their fuel cut raised to 18psi, but i dont know if that was as a result of increasing the boost over 12psi. im a rev2 owner so ive not paid great attention to rev3+

ive noticed a lot of people with rev 3's tend to run a steady 1 BAR with just a de cat ive forgotten whats what in psi now allthough i know 1.2 BAR is 17.5 psi and a bit over that on a rev 3 and as you said you start to hit fuel cut

Cooling, either uprated intercooler or chargecooler. You shouldn't really be raising the boost much from stock without improving your cooling.

I keep mine at 15psi, it wont be going up intentionally until I have my chargecooler on there.

That said in the cold weather a couple of weeks ago I saw 17psi in third gear and fxxk me did it go!

Once in a blue moon? Daily?

How much power is it making?
