[Mk2] [Turbo] Rear wheel camber when lowered on springs only.

Post by jwarren2k2 »

Hello,

I noticed at the weekend, when changing wheels, that the rear tyres have been wearing on the inside edge.

Would this be because of the car being lowered on springs only with the standard black bilstein shocks?

Is there a fix? I'm planning on getting new suspension within the next month or so - any advice to help prevent the same problem?

Thanks in advance,

James

Lowering the car will increase negative camber. You can alleviate it by getting eccentric camber bolts installed (and getting a full geo alignment).

Obviously I would wait until getting your new suspension and then get the full geo.

I would recommend wheelsinmotion - Had my car aligned there a few months ago and the car was transformed :thumleft:

What DeusMR2 said.

If you're in the Midlands and dont fancy a drive down to WiM, I reccomend Center Gravity, just off the A5 at Atherstone.

Thanks guys.

I'll wait until the new suspension goes on before ordering up some camber adjustment bolts, then I'll be sure to do some research into getting it set up properly.

Thanks for the recommendations too! I looked on their wesites and both outfits seem to be very professional which is good!

I'm only just down the road from centregravity, hadn't heard of them before ...
Looked on their site, everything looks great and very proffessional - email them for a quote ...

gulp ....

Schedule
Tyre data check and adjust
Pre load car with weight
Geometry check and adjust

Test drive
Before and after tyre report
Before and after geometry check and report

Totals
Labour (excluding VAT)
Total cost £199.00
VAT £34.82
Total £233.82

Wasn't expecting that! Although I'm not 100% happy with the results, a local alloy wheel place did me a full 4W check and adjust last year for around £65 - maybe you get what you pay for, and centregravity are the dogs whatnots???

If you have lowered the car and not had it set up then your rear toe will be incorrect. That is what is wearing the inside of the tyre not any camber change.

Also worth adding that MR2's like negative camber- so don't assume you need to adjust it back with camber bolts...most folk I've talked to lower and use camber bolts to add even more negative camber (albeit they are mainly aiming at track driving) :thumleft:

That is a bit on the expensive side - I hope they did a good job

I paid just over £100 for a full geo (which includes all of the above) at wheelsinmotion.
