[Mk2] [Turbo] Pls help me choose correct tyre sizes for 17" Alloys

Post by freak_in_cage »

Hi Guys,

My friend has recently acquired a mk2 tubby and before we go on a track day he may need new rears. Im trying to convince him to have 4 new ones but will have to see how the money is.

He has 17" alloys on the car, current tyre sizes are:

205 40 R17
235 40 R17

Will these sizes be in keeping with the originals to ensure suitable handling?

I wasn't really able to understand this thread

Many thanks to all you people who seem to understand this tyre mumbo jumbo!! :D :D :D [/quote]

not a good use of an 8inch rim though  I do use the same front tyre on thesame sized rim, wish I'd bought a 7inch front #-o

good point fellas- TBH i dont know how wide they are.

How can i measure this? Will there be lettering inside the alloy somewhere? Or must i remove the tyre?

Apologies for the ignorance :D :D

the width and ET could be anywhere, but is generally on the hub part of the wheel, normally behind the wheel.
so wheel off to look at the hub side.

tbh, ive seen peeps run those rear sizes on a 7 or 8 inch rim with no problems.
