Refurb wheels or not?

Post by bazippy »

Im coming to the time of selling my Mk2 Turbo
Its all original and only done 65k, its mechanically sound and perfect body work etcetc. however the covering ont he wheel has flaked off in several places the wheel have never been kerbed and have no damages but after 17 years the coating has given up. the question is should i get them refurbed before sale? or leave them for the new buyer. my instict says refurb them for the better sale price.
what do you guys think?
Also i think the car is worth £2000 to £2500? is that optimistic?

cheers fellas and damn i dont want to loose my 2 but my driving job is costing £200-£250 a month in fuel with the 2.

I'd leave them as they are, chances are the buyer will probably change the alloys IMO.

Is that contact anywhere near sheffield?
I had the thought about someone putting alloys straight on the car. kinda pains me cause if i had a garage id keep the car and it be standard for its lifetime. but you cant choose your buyers.
I was expecting around £300 for all four wheels done so £45 is a nice price for me!

dont do it. the money you spend wont increase the value of the car anywhere near as much, as as said the new buyer might not even want the alloys so they wont care about the condition of them.

its an engineering firm in wales not really aimed at cars so they do it on 'per job' basis rather than offer an alloy refurb service
its a more sensible price as they'll just see it as 4 bits of aluminum i guess

bazippy, theres a place in bradord, CAS coatings I think, they powdercoat for £1 an inch, so one 15 inch wheel is £15, all four £60. You would need to get the tyres removed first though, so all in, I reckon no more than £100.
