[Mk2] [Turbo] urgent help needed

Post by Apocalypse »

Hey guys, in need of help... my alternator has gone again meaning the battery is now dead. Tried jump starting it, left it connected to another car and when turning to acc there was a clicking and dials were flashing. I think the battery is completely dead...

I need to know what to do, was thinking of buying a new battery as I needed one anyway, however will it be ruined because it will be draining as soon as I use it.

Any advice will help please. Thanks

Id just stick the battery on charge until youve got the alternator sorted. Chances are you wont need a new battery? Or have you had the battery tested to check its knackered?

Has not been tested,... any idea how much driving time i'd have from full charge with no alternator?

You wont get far on a new battery mate maybe 10-15 minutes driving max.
You need to get a new alternator in there.
We have spares, and a recovery service if required.

Are your alternators under any kind of guarantee?

I bought one from a reputable breaker 2 months ago and its dead.

The alternator won't charge if the 3-pin connector isn't attached to it properly and these are easily damaged when you remove a bust alternator as they are generally caked on with 15 years worth of grime and take a bit of force to get off.

Worth checking, check each pin is supplying 12v with the engine running as well before you spend out on another alternator :thumleft:

Yeah easy, jack the back of the car up, get underneath and pull the 3-pin plug off the alternator. You don't need to remove anything from the car. Don't do it when it's hot though as your arm will be very close to the exhaust :)
