Whats the best 3 games you have ever played?

Every single time I have ever played an old game I hold dear to my heart it has ruined the memory.

Exactly, yet people still say modern games are horrible and the old ones are better.

If pushed for a list of all my all time favourite games, there would be nothing in there from old gen consoles. Because they're all bad (IMO) when stood next to the modern games.

I did however find a sega megadrive while looking for my Atari 2600. I rigged her up and played on Desert/Jungle Strike, Theme Park and road rash 2.

The graphics really are appauling compared with say xbox 360 et al. Yet When I was 10 when Road Rash 2 came out, I couldn't get off the bloody thing!!

yeah, I don't doubt for a minute that the current xbox and PS3 graphics will be ridiculed in 10-20 years time, just as the Amiga/Atari 2600 are in this thread!

I probably did play my old consoles more than I do the new ones.

Then again, I could complete an entire game in 2 hours on the old consoles where as that would just be the intro on modern games.

I reckon when consoles like the PS1, Saturn etc came along people were thinking "how can it get better than this"

It did. And it will continue to get better.

In years to come games will look as good as Avatar the movie. And not just in cut scenes.

Forza 2 Vs Forza 3. Same game franchise, same console, million miles apart in graphics.





If they can move on that much on the same console, imagine how far they'll move on the next gen...

I knew I would open up a can of worms here lol.

IMO newer games lack that certain charm and simple game play. I'm not doubting that they are very sophisticated and the graphics are incredible - I love how fifa 10 plays and gt5 looks, but i just prefer the older style of gameplay - take COD for example, the last one i played was modern warfare and (to me) its just too complicated. Maybe i just couldnt be bothered to learn all the controls etc and (to me) a first person shooter does not work on a joypad. Every fps i play, i compare to cs 1.6 which was (to me) superb in every single way.

I know what you mean about the "never meet your child hood hero" syndrome, but with games I just prefer the classic stuff.

All down to opinion at the end of the day (theres mine )

Staying on this topic, i loved the gameplay of the Gran Turismo 2 better than 3/4.

I don't find that at all with the old stuff, if it was a good game back then its still a good game now...

I love playing the old classics from time to time, maybe part nostalgia, but most of it is because they had such playability...

Graphics is not the be all and end all of a game.

IMO.

Personal preferences and all that.

same as me. i LOVE monkey island, broken sword, full throttle, the dig, moonstone, track and field and sooooooo many others that i cant remember the name of lol
alot of modern games just lack the game play element. i know everyone loves bio shock and gears of war etc yeah they have pretty graphics but the game play is just boring and repetative, then there are all the other fps games that are the same with just a different coat of paint.

its rare to get games now that have a mix of both, at the min its usually graphics > gameplay where as before they had no choice but to do it the other way around lol.

at the end of my xbox 1 days i just used mine to play old mame and n64 games, and often play amiga games on my pc

I feel more in control of modern games. With old games I always feel like I'm hitting buttons and they're not really making the characters do what I want.

I suppose the exception would be games such as Super Mario and Sonic and other platforms as you only really use the D-Pads and jump button lol.

It's why for me modern games have to have a good involving story/setting/atmosphere/pure escapism etc... ... for me though Bioshock and GOW have that, COD doesn't though for example.
