Introducing

Hey, i've been using the forum for almost a month now so thought i'd put some info up. Seems like a great helpful setup you've got here certainly better than a few forums i've used.

The name's ad i'm 21 and live in the midlands i'm a qualified mechanic and i've just passed my MOT NT training course so will shortly be a qualified MOT tester too with any luck so any questions etc. fire away. I've always wanted an MR2 but couldn't insure one until i turned 21 i realised that i actually could

So anyway in the last 9 months i've gone from driving this:

Well specc'd 60bhp mk4 polo brute, great car but way too slow, to this:

UK Mk1 mx5 1.8, great car but too prone to severe rust and again too slow luckily i fell on my feet and swapped it for something a "bit" quicker, but until i could afford to insure it i bought this as a run around:

Suzuki vitara, taught me how to mig weld and forced me into learning how to "fresh air" weld, suprisingly hardcore offroad and a right laugh with 6 mates in lol, then i turned 21 and finally insured this:

Sorrento green 1.9gti specc'd mi16 conversion running approx. 190bhp, went like stink stuck to the road and stopped on demand, great fun but being french, fwd and french were the deciding factors in the end so i sold it and bought this off pistonheads:


Turned out to be a guy called MR2EMO off here if you're familiar with the car you'll know the spec:

N/A UK Rev3 2.0 GT in goodwood green, 116k, turbo half leather interior, like new tein type flex and adjustable pillowballs all round, recent suspension and steering alignment setup, 16"enkei rp01s 7j fronts 8j rear, 205/45 and 225/45 T1R's all round like new, new mongoose rear silencer and toyota flexi, new headunit with amp, 6x9's etc.

For £2000 i couldn't have asked for a more sorted car, definitely one of the nicest car's i've driven, very firm but no rattles, knocks, bangs, strange noises or smoke etc. and very, very minimal rust to deal with, nice seating postion, comfortable, great engine sound, great sound system the list goes on.

Look forward to hearing from you and i'll be attending the Mids meet starting next month with any luck.

BTW does anyone know how to change the damping settings on Tein's? I know its to do with the small hole in the top of the shock absorber itself but do you wind the allen key in, out? take it out competely and adjust internally? Any help will be appreciated.

Lol, the thing was like a sieve when i got hold of it. Many hours of "fun" were spent making it roadworthy - sills, flitches, body mountings etc. Taught me well though

Must admit i was a bit apprehensive at first but i made full use of the snow and damp to get more of an understanding of the cars physics.

Great fun once you get the hang of it though, by the end of a few sessions with my mates i could doughnut round a static car even with an open diff. Surprisingly it was my mate in his e30 that connected with a kerb (quite badly) and not me.

Lol, the thing was like a sieve when i got hold of it. Many hours of "fun" were spent making it roadworthy - sills, flitches, body mountings etc. Taught me well though

reminds me of my youth going back a while ..... 1988 me and my friend jon bought an opel manta from the local car auction ! £160 , no mot , no tax and a flat betterry it was a white gte that needed some attention we got it back to the garage and jon said " we can have this on the road for sat it was thurs night he did the mechanics i did the paintwork , thats how we worked . so its going for an mot sat morning if its going to be on the road for sat
first look and the sills are bubbles of filler (known as bog in the trade). i put an angle grinder to it ................. it just fell on the floor in one lump ! a 2 ft long almost piece of bog held together by means of a newspaper i was left with thin holes and tatters of a sill ! in them days though we used to buy whats called "universal sills " and i could fit them to anything i had it done and painted for midnight

Haha, sounds like a gem to me! You've gotta love people who clag holes up with filler lol.

Fair do's though i like your perseverance, manta gte would be a bit of a rarity nowadays too.
