MK 2 Tubby- Gonna swap for my NA- what to look out for????

Post by freak_in_cage »

Hi Guys,

A m8 of mine has a G Limited NA and is hoping to swap it for a Tubby with his dad (who has had it in a garage for a few years!)- it was freshly imported so there will be no service info etc etc!

We are looking over it on Saturday and im trying to do a bit of research into what to look out for- to make sure its gonna be reliable- the last thing he wants is to swap only for the tubby to break down!

So far i have:

94+ have better handling- if its 94+ it has rounded rear tail lights

white smoke under boost- this is BAD

anything else major he should look for???

clearly it will need a service once he has bought it......

bit off topic, but surely your mates dad is not going to rip off his own son!

Nope.

The suspension was revised in 1992 for the rev2 model and, AFAIK, no further changes were made after this.

Also, looking at the thread ashman linked to, jap imports prior to 1994 had ABS too.

ABS was optional in any market up til '96 when it became standard IIRC. Certainly '96 on turbos have ABS as standard but it can quite easily be present on any age MK2.

Have a read of Ben's buyers guide, it covers most bases.

i doubt his dad has ever driven it- it probably hasn;t been driven more than 400 miles since it was imported- which was about 5 years ago

thx for the links- the BT internet one is excellent!
