Mk2 Rev3 V6, 61k miles

Post by iblis »

Hi all,

Selling my Woodsport converted Rev3 Mk2 3VZ-FE.

New set of Yokohamas fitted last month with about 1000 miles wear (cost £580 fitted). Mileage on the V6 engine is roughly 61k, with a full service history prior to conversion. I'll be very surprised if that's not the lowest mileage MR2 V6 in the UK.

Asking price: £2,650.

I have the space to hold on to it for a while, but there's no point in having it sitting there, so will consider sensible offers. Any questions let me know. The car is located in London E14, and can be viewed evenings/weekends.

Going to be sad to see this go, have owned the car nearly 5 years  But it's been sat idle for a fortnight now, so procrastination has to stop.

Cheers,
Mark

Mileage on MR2 114,699 kms + about 16,000 miles = about 87,600 miles
Mileage on Camry engine 45,566 miles + about 16,000 miles = about 61,566 miles

Engine install completed by Woodsport in November 2008
Mileage of MR2 before conversion was 114,699 kilometres
Speedo replaced with a UK spec MPH one. Odometer on replacement Speedo read 106,985 miles at installation (installed shortly after I got back from Woodsport, so adding 600 miles to total). Woodsport installed a MPH speedo I provided originally, but the odometer was not working properly so I replaced it again. I still have the original and the broken speedos if you want them.
Odometer now 122,333 miles
Mileage since conversion 16,000 miles
3VZ-FE from 1993 Toyota Camry
Camry odometer read 45,566 miles at conversion
MOT and Tax to end of February 2010
On a 54 reg (I brought it with me when I moved from Ireland, DVLA assigned this plate. Can be confirmed with DVLA if there are any concerns. Also can be validated on their website by clicking on first result here http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=dvla+v ... =firefox-a . I've added a screen shot of result below)

Conversion details:
Magnex stainless exhaust
Walbro fuel pump
Tacho mod
Fidanza lightweight flywheel
Uprated clutch (think it is a hybrid n/a turbo one)
Headwork not done
Low mileage Rev 5 N/A LSD gearbox from GTS Chris sourced and fitted by Woodsport

Camry details:
Camry was one owner from new, kept garaged throughout its life.
I have a full service history for it confirming mileage, and a copy of the reg cert for it (I had to surrender the original when it was scrapped).

MR2 details:
I bought it in Dublin in 2005 as a fresh import
Was a 1995 G-Limited
T-bar (does not leak)
Kenwood MP3 CD player with AUX input for MP3 player, etc
Electric folding mirrors
Custom engraved tax disc holder
HT leads recently replaced
Front fogs
Original T bar blinds and bags, Man in Dandism floor mats
Remote Start 2-way Pager Alarm/Immobiliser (2 LCD pager remotes and one standard remote included)
Remote boot release
Automatic window closure on arming of alarm
New handbrake cables and reg plate light bulbs to pass MOT in February 2009
1x Valet key (original), 1xMaster key (original), 1xMaster key (copy)
Rev 4 clear corners fitted
Rear foglights in UK spec position
Paintwork could do with some attention. Some of it responds nicely to T-Cut, some doesn't.
Bodywork in general in good condition, No signs of rust. Light grazing on passenger side door [car park scars  ] has only gone part way through the paint.

Issues:
Coolant leak - I've been topping it up every 200-300 miles, and have not had any overheating issues
1 Wheel stud broken - I snapped it being an idiot and over-tightening it. I have a replacement from Toyota (actually got 2 to have a spare one) but have not got around to fitting it.
Petrol gauge only goes half way up. Reads correctly when fuel level falls below this (Float accessible from cockpit, so possibly a straightforward fix)
Climate Control - not working since conversion (continuity from junction box in engine bay to magnetic clutch, but not going live when air con on. Air con was working fine in Camry and MR2 prior to conversion and air con was retained during conversion, so shouldn't be anything serious. Possibly wiring fault between junction box in engine bay and air con control panel)
Chip in windscreen outside drivers line of sight. This has been in the car since I bought it and is not an MOT failure.
Driver window squeaking when going up/down (guides probably need adjusting)
Idle speed comes down a little quicker than I'd expect when the engine is cold, but it doesn't stall or anything. Runs perfect once warmed up. I understand this to be normal for conversions, but happy to be corrected on that.
Needs a service

Also included:
TRD Gear knob (I liked it at first, but went back to OEM)
Set of brand new crystal corners
Set of brand new spark plugs
Set of brand new rear brake discs

Sadly can't go for it, as I haven't sold my SL, but this looks like an absolute steal for someone. V6 MR2s are still fascinating...

As I said on Two Brutal, this is my perfect second MR2... unfortuantely having just bought a new set of coilovers, and with the ski season fast approaching, I can only afford it if you knock the zero off the end of the price

Will the coolant issue be relatively simple to resolve can anyone tell me?

Or does it indicate possibly a more serious problem with the engine?

many thanks

i don't think it will go on to being a more serious problem just need to find the where leak is and fix it, all you have to do is get the engine cleaned and watch where the leak is coming from :eye:

I don't think it's anything serious. In fact, having done a bit of research I think it is the pipe running from the filler cap down behind the engine (toward the front of the car) that is the issue. Please be aware this is all stuff I read on the internet though, I'm no mechanic

According to http://www.stewartcomponents.com/tech_t ... Tips_2.htm the following should be the case in a cooling system:

Radiator Cap Location
The radiator cap should always be located at the highest point of the cooling system, and on the low pressure side (after the radiator core).Cross flow radiators mounted higher than the engine are ideal because the cap is on the tank that is connected to the water pump inlet. This configuration offers 3 advantages:

1. The cap is at the highest point of the system, allowing any air to migrate to the area just below the cap. In the event the cap vents due to excessive pressure, the air will escape first.

I replaced the pipe after the conversion as the one that was on it was a bit short and rubbing against the alternator adjustment bolt. The one I put on (the only one I had to hand) was really a bit too long. As a result, the pipe is slightly higher than the filler cap. I think I've never quite got all the air out of the system while bleeding it as a result.

The coolant is leaking out of the expansion bottle overflow. Reading the below, the long pipe seems to be a very likely culprit.

When air is trapped in the cooling system, it expands a lot more than the coolant does when it gets hot. This causes the pressure to rise, which can burst a hose, squirt coolant out the expansion tank overflow hose or even cause the car to overheat.

If that's correct, you are talking about buying a shorter pipe for it, or shortening the metal pipe that it attaches to behind the engine. I strapped the pipe down with cable ties to test this theory, and it seems to have greatly reduced the amount it is losing, but there is still air collecting where the pipe meets the engine.

You are more than welcome to have a mechanic take a look at it. If any inspection turns up anything I will post the results :thumleft:

With regards to the air con problem, I've read that the compressor won't come on if it needs to be regassed. Kwik-fit do a recharge for £40 and if it doesn't work they don't charge. They don't do it unless the outside temperature is above 9 degrees though, so it's something that would have to wait until Spring.

Is there anything else putting people off?

I'm away over new year, but it can be viewed again evenings/weekends from the 3rd Jan.

I am quite interested, have one other question it says "Headwork not done" in the advert,

What exactly does this involve and how much difference will it make compared to one that has?

I like the idea, its just I dont want to be buying something that will cause me major grief down the line as im sure you can understand :)

Thanks

Slightly non-technical response here! This involves putting the heads on a flowbench and "trimming" them, for want of a better word. The idea is to make them more efficient by improving airflow through the heads.

I believe there's a company in Dagenham that do it and guarantee something like a 15% increase in power output.

When I was getting the conversion done, there was an argument for not touching the heads on a 45k engine. In the end, getting the car back on the road quicker was more important.

It'll always be an option in the future if you decided you wanted more power. Most places that do custom engine work will be able to do it.

Hi Rich, the headwork involves getting the head's removed and the inlet and exhaust ports polished and ported. A good write-up of the work involved with the V6 conversions can be found somewhere in here:
