nice power mate think your right with the safe limits of the engine components,
im hopeing around 400whp & similar torque for mine,as long as its safe not to worried though

Hi Chaps,

I run a sealed box over my IC in boot with 3 ducts, one from drivers side pod, one from under car (Both 6") and one 10" (I think) from under car. Then got two 12" fans under car to pull air down and out. Got a load of leaves a twigs n stuff getting in so must get so air too.

No idle probs, pick up a live from the engine bay fuse box (it's wired direct to battery) to a relay, use ECU to switch it.

Will take a load of pics when I get car back, my mods page in projects will be due an update. Hopefully get some temp values too.

I only avoided the Impreza scoop as I thought I would bodge it! Mark P's car had an awesome setup in. He had done a pukka job of ducting, a bit like hedgehog dodgers used to be.

I ram air in through the bottom with the scoop, the fans are set to come in with the Motec if temps rise above 35 degrees. So far they have only been running if stuck in traffic. I believe forcing air in from the bottom is the only way to make full use of a bootmounted IC. As said, from the top not much flow can be acheived. Trouble is you have to side exit the exhaust with a bottom scoop. However I still think this is required if top feeding the air into the IC otherwise heatsoak will be a right issue.

the system seems to be working well at the moment the i/c is always cold to the touch even after a good blast :thumleft: the only thing i wasnt shore with yours ducting air from underneath is would it get the heat from the engine blown on to the i/c it seems from your info the answer is no which is good :thumleft: my under vent is designed to allow air to pass through it acting like a venturie system pulling air through the i/c:thumleft:
do like the look of your under scoop likes mean :thumleft:

how about using a scoop facing the front of the car directing air up into the boot and out of a vent in the top?

do you notice much lag using a boot install?

That is basically how mine is JDBecks, there are already holes in the boot to allow the scooped air to escape. Can't answer the lag question...My GT35R 1.06ar is laggy as fook anyways

that has been done by mark summers i think it was, but if i was to do that i would have to rotate the boot vent the other way to allow the air to flow away from the car :thumletime : as for lag cant say i really noticed last time it was mapped we got full boost by 3700rpm garret gt3076 :thumleft:

Not saying your way doesn't work matey :thumleft: Just a million times more work than how mine is set up. With mine you need a big scoop making up, a frame to mount the IC on, a big IC some pipes and job done. The engine heat from under the car is not really an issue with the exhaust being mounted at the top. This way is probably as close to front mount as we can get. Knew I should of done a GT4  :clown:

I've tried every way of cooling, side mount stock location, side mount on passenger side, huge side mounted passenger side Spearco chargecooler, and now this boot mount. The boot mount is by far the most efficient so far. :D

+1 -not tried all the methods, but i agree with your verdict.

Sometimes Simplicity is the answer! CC's are very technical for just a means to cool air. I hear so many people recommend CC setups for high HP but when you look at the setups of the big guns, ie nathan's, Jekyll n Hyde and a few others (1/4 the population of mr2oc lol), they all seem to use Intercoolers!

Im going do it the same way as chris,

and plan on using a vent like this under the spoiler facing the rear of the car..question is, whats the best way to attach it to the boot? I dont really know much about body work

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Hood-Air-Scoo ... 3eefab0e9c

and with the long pipes, do you get much movement of the pipes? how do you brace them around to prevent them moving? or is it not much of an issue?
