Halfords - astral black

Post by Hurstie1981 »

Hello there!

Just wondering how good the halfords astral black spray is, i.e

1) is it a good colour match, and

2) how good of a job can you do with a spray paint?

Thanks

I got some to spray a splitter up - seemed to be a very good match and went on really well, apply the usual rules of spraying and all should be well, not sure I'd want to do a larger area though :)

I used a couple of cans to spray my type G splitter. Colour match was ok but not 100%. I wouldnt recomend spraying a larger or more prominent area using cans. Ive since had my splitter sprayed by a pro because the job I done with a can picked up loads of stone chips really quickly. I havent got a single chip on the new paint work! *touch wood*

cheers for that!

i have an import but before i bought it 2 years ago, it was in a front ender , and has uk spec front wings, with side repeaters. I was thinking about removing the lenses and filling the hole in, but was contemplating doing it mself, but thinking about it, im sure a body shop wouldnt be too expensive, and get a much better finish!

I was thinking about using the spray to do a splitter, and do it myself!

Dont do it yourself!!! Especially the wings! It will look crap. It took me hours and hours to prep\spray then finsih my splitter. Wish I had of just got it done by a pro without bothereing. It cost me £150 to have my splitter (type G) rubbed back down and sprayed and to have my rear sill pulled back out (garage tried jacking on the sill)

When I took my Tom's scoop to my local bodyshop for spraying, I was informed that there are a few 'Astral Blacks' for Toyota. Not believing, I looked at the guy's book, and saw about eight different shades of Astral Black...within the years 1989 to 1997.

The best solution I could see was to remove one of the panels either side of the bootlid, and get the bodyshop chap to match the colour using a spectrometer.

Your mileage may vary.
