was just on the dual carraige way, straight line in 3rd gear and opened it up a bit, back end slid out and then i was a passenger, nothing i did seemed to help atall

spun 360 and hit the barrier twice,

only insured the car about an hour before, excess is more than the car was worth anyway

let me know if anyone is looking for spares :thumleft:

So you bought the car on 22/11 and wrote it off 23/11?

Was it wet by any chance when you booted it in 3rd?

What a shame, glad nobody was hurt.

The excess is more than the car is worth? I presume you mean after the crash? As in the wreck is worth less than your excess?

So you bought the car on 22/11 and wrote it off 23/11?

yep bought it it on sunday and wrote if off on monday

yes it was wet

bold rear tyres by any chance?
unlucky mate, think that must be a record

tyres were close to limit, was going to get some new ones the next day

do i get an award if its a record?

The excess is more than the car is worth? I presume you mean after the crash? As in the wreck is worth less than your excess?

no before the crash

insuring a mr2 turbo at 20 was cheaper with excess up full than 3rd party

Well, it depends I think... if you aren't aware of the dangers, yea, that's a very bad thing to do.

But if you know what is gonna happen if you hit the throttle, it's "fun" aswell.

Sometimes in the rain I start playing around, start to boost a bit, and feel the car slide away at the back.
Surely you have to stop at the right time, before going 180/360-ish

people sometimes laugh at me because I dont take my mr2 out in the wet, threads like this is why.

even thought I have owned it for a few months + got good tyres + when it rains boost is kept to a minimum.

Feel for you mate but at least nobody was hurt and you should get your money back by breaking her, how much did she cost in the first place ?

Sorry to hear about that :(

If it helps any I know how you feel. Did the same to a tuned xr3i back in my youth. Saved for ages to get it and it was a minter. Had it for 3 days, lost it in the wet and smashed it to bits. Learnt a very valuable lesson that day.

Don't let it put you off though, just learn from the experience. You're not hurt and neither is anybody else. Save up and get yourself another one as they are great cars once you get used to the power and rear wheel drive :thumleft:

Holy cr@p...that is some achievement Stuart.

If you get another MR2 stick to N/A mate for the first year or so...and stay away from Oxfordshire.

just noticed this thread. Sorry to hear bout the news mate but the main thing is no ones hurt.

MR2s are a bit tricky to handle when its wet and I've learnt that the hard way too. I just finished doing all I wanted to do with the car (even fixed the damn boost problem) and then I crashed the day after :( Was my first Mid engined rear wheel drive car and its just something diff to the rest.

Hope you feel better now and good luck with your sale!

Unlucky :(

My MR2 was my first rear wheel drive car too, and my first car with any kind of power.

I had it drilled in to me before I even got it "be careful in the wet!!" Mr Rhiannan is a fireman so very passionate about road safety. I think I drove like a granny for the first 2 months

It's bad on the corners in the wet, but even in a straight line. I've done the same, put my foot down to over take someone on the dueler, then back wheel start to spin an the back end kicks out. Luckily it wasn't too bad and I got it under control. Any car anywhere near me certainly backed off

I think of the 2's like a pet wolf, it is fine most of the time and does what it is told, but there is always the threat of it doing something wild and out of control and there is nothing you can do about it!

but if we are honest - that's half the reason a lot of people like it so much.
