Do i need a special Lamdba Sensor?

Post by OKI »

Hi all,

Its been a while. I have a quicky for you!

I've been told i need a new Lamdba sensor. The cars heavily tuned, do I need a special lamdba sensor or will the stock one do?

The plastic connectors which connect the sensor cable to rest of the cables has melted severely, so i will need to replace them also.

Any ideas where I can source these parts?

Appreciate any advice, Thanks

The standard lambda sensor will be fine, you could just replace the connectors with either one you don't use or buy a male/female connector and wire it into the loom, failing that you could try items wanted to see if some one would be willing to cut the connector of a faulty sensor and the connector from the loom :eye:

Thanks for advice bud.

What do you mean replace with either one i don't use. Am i likely to find unwanted connectors on the loom??

Im happy to wire new connectors into the loom but i didnt know where to start when looking for them. So you say 'male/female connectors' is there anything else i can use to find the correct ones?

I found a few different lamdba sensors online. Most are £50 but i've seen universal ones for £30. Do you know if these work?

Thanks again

I would stick with a genuine toyota sensor, pretty sure there is another connector on the end of the loom, either cat temp or air-con or fan, if not then an electrical store will have a connector for sale, like maplins :-k

second one down, for example.

Maybe this kind of connector would be more suitable,

THANKS GUYS.

I will order the ebay connector today (nice one Nigel).

I guess its a £55 lamdba sensor then and not the cheapo universal one :(

I found this from JustLamdba @ £55 http://www.lambdasensor.com/main/mr2.htm
but i've just noticed it says 'universal type sensor'

Fensport dont stock them, nor do Japarts.. I doubt Toyota main dealer will stock them either, as its an import.

Know any good part suppliers who will stock the geniune part? Lots being sold on ebay but i dont trust that they are geniune.

Thanks again guys (sorry, i know i talk too much)

Just found this one on ebay @ £40, looks identical to mine.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lambda-Sensor-Toy ... 2770wt_941

BUT....

The part no. & engine no. don't match.. My sensor is 89465-17130 which is not listed and in the car list it doesn't have the 3S-GTE only 3S-GE, years dont match either come to think of it. (pretty pointless link then really)

Whats all this about Front & rear lamdba sensors??

I need the one that fits into the Turbo housing, next to the dipstick. I presume thats the rear sensor?? Lots of front ones online.

Front & rear sensors are for MK3s.
