Without spending loads of cash....difficult! Head work, throttlebodies, cams, ARP rod bolts and an upped redline, etc, etc....but gain in bhp per £ ain't great.

Most will simply say chuckin a turbo engine in is a more economical way to more power.

I have been told that there are reasonable returns on an ageing engine for simply rebuilding the head, cleaning and reseating valves, etc...that's my plan for my 160,000 kilometer old engine anyway :thumleft:

Yeh your probably right , that's pretty much what I thought . Will see how the engine goes on a couple of track days then next step is priobably a turbo lump. Just wondered if there were any cheap tricks people have done to get a bit extra power , mine has done about 150000 km and seems to run ok but suppose all will be revealed with some regular use !

Add lightness! Then spend your money on driver training - that's one modification that will stay with you regardless of what you do with the car.

If your looking for additional Driver Training. Try the IAM. Stick em in google and they'll come up. I've been a member for near 2 years. And would recomend it to anyone who wants to improve their driving.

It mite not help for track days, but it will certainly make you quicker on the roads. (And safer. Less chance o destroying the pride an joy)

Try an contact yout local group through the website. There should be links to different groups. Depending on the area.

Yes, Malcolm Edeson: http://www.driver-coaching.com/

or Eugene O'Brien: http://www.eugeneobrien.co.uk/

...both of whom have experience coaching MR2 Championship drivers. Malcolm has previously competed (and won) in an MR2 race and Eugene is preparing a Championship car for next year after being so impressed with other MR2s he's seen.

you could also try Nathan @ century. 2009 Ginetta G50 champion & former UK Formula Ford champion. He's not too far away from you either.

Rebuilding my head is something im just about to do on my rev 1.
Before i do though i had the idea of using a rev 2 or rev3 head. Would they fit still? Im guessing that the manifolds and electrics are different on the rev 3 head.
Any suggestions?
Is it the rev 3's head that gives it better bhp than the rev 1? Or just the Cams?

I think IAM training will hinder the poor guy if he goes on track. Much better to simply book tuition on a trackday. www.simonmason.com is a good one, know this guy well.

Dunno mate- ask some of the affiliates on here, I was planning on doing it myself so costs would hopefully be minimal depending on what I find when I pull it apart :eye:
