[Mk2] [Turbo] turbo sensor not plugged into anything ?!

the previous owner that did the engine swap hasn't plugged the sensor thats sits on the exhaust side of the turbo in, the wires are just hanging down and i cant see where their supposed to go,

it looks suspiciously like a lambda sensor and i thought they were pretty vital for keeping the engine in check.

could anyone shed any light on where its supposed to be plugged into please,

Lambda sensor goes in the top of the downpipe right next to the turbo housing. Depending on rev of engine either 2 wire or 4. Engine unlikely to work properly with it disconnected! Cat temp sensor goes in the bottom of the downpipe. Always 1 wire. Not required for engine operation, all it does is light up a dash light if it gets too hot. Both of them connect to the engine loom at the top corner of the engine, next to the intercooler and the engine hook. The loom for them comes over the cambelt area in a plastic casing before terminating in the connectors.

ahh the plot thickens then!
this appears to have 2 wires, but it is right next to the turbo

i'm not getting any ECU faults and i've checked the management lamp which is working fine


i have a pic on my phone but can't upload it because i forgot my cable,
could i MMS it to you to double check?

My mistake, old lambda sensors are 2 wire not 1. I guess they don't wanna ground through the downpipe cause they need very accurate readings. I have edited my earlier post to fix this.

Lambda sensor is the one in the bottom right of this picture (sorry for quality) up from the yellow handle of the dipstick. If disconnected it will seriously affect your fuel economy and emissions when driving off-boost. I appreciate this is a rev3 photo but the sensor is in the same place, it just has fewer wires.



In that pic, just to the left of the yellow dipstick handle is a bracket that's bolted to the head. That's where the connector for the lambda sensor (and intercooler fan and cat temp sensor) should be.

does anyone know why the one thats installed has 3 wires? (two white one black)
could it have been from another car?
also does anyone know the pinouts wire colours i need to connect it to?
i've searched for the connector and can't find it so i'm guessing i'm going to have to run the wires to the ecu myself. i've searched the internet for wiring diagrams and i can't seem to find anything i can work from,

The rev 1/2's have a single wire the rev 3's have a 4 wire o2 sensor. So it seems to me yours is a aftermarket sensor and will not work.
We got spares if you need.

Sorry to jump on the thread but I need a 4 wire sensor and the plastic connector plug.

The connector on mine melted severely and i had to cut the wires, so now i'm left with exposed wires coming from the engine loom. (3 wires)

Have you still got spares? Any idea how to connect a 4 wire sensor to the 3 wires coming from the loom WITHOUT the connector plugs?





I've got pics if you wanna see the damage. (don't know how to put them up on here though)
