I dont quite get what part of it is supposed to be DJ'ing?

I used to be heavily into DJ'ing as a hobby (not professionally) and still have my decks, mixer and probably 350-400 records. I fail to see any similarity what so ever to mixing?

If I'd have designed the game I'd have made the controller a bit like some of the modern CD decks with rotating platters, a pitch control button, a stop/start function and que's. Give it X amount of songs, preselect a set list and then you can mix your tunes, which is what DJ'ing is?

This game not only looks utter crap but is a serious let down for some one who thought of the same idea (honestly, no sooner had Guitar Hero come out I thought DJ Hero would make an excellent game)

For anyone who thought Guitar Hero was in no way like playing a real guitar, I can tell you, it's closer to the real thing that this poo.

I do get its not like actually DJing as its battling and mashing much like DMC championships etc... Your not pushing the vinyl and catching it in the right spots etc.. but why create a game that is the same when you can buy decks and a mixer?

Its for fun not for gigging.

But, on expert... it totally changes, the scratches the fader cuts are all soooo close to how I'd do it on my decks and mixer.

They could have started by not calling it DJ Hero and calling it Scratch Hero or something.

As for why not buy the real thing, I can give you a simple reason ££££

Years and years ago I spent £600 on my decks and mixer + another £50 (on sale) for some needles. A set of Technics these days (I dont have Technics) are about £800 + mixer, headphones etc.

Lets say I have 300 records (as above it's probably more) that cost on average £7 each = £2,100 on music.

They could have brought DJ'ing in it's best form, mixing, to the masses with this game but have failed IMO.

I was looking forward to it as I love a bit of mixing but have no space to get the decks and gear out any more. I really hoped this would give me a more accessible way to have a play with some mixing.
But no, it looks rubbish.

it lopoks quite fun, i cant stand that sort of music but my mate can so he's buying it this week and we are gonna have a blast on it. is it right that u can play guitar at the same time as using the deck?

But how would that be fun? Granted, my knowledge of mixing is very limited and I've only had a go at it once or twice in my life, and whilst it must be very satisfying to get it right it's also going to make for a rubbish game. Just listening to a whole song and then blending into the next one is about 20 secs of entertainment.

I've yet to play DJ Hero, but I think they took the right approach and would love to give this a try at some point even though none of the music interests me at all really.

Yup, a mate can strum along to some of the songs.

There is an actual rock mash-up set half way through but tbh it's a shambles. The songs are lame played in battle style.

Real life mashing and cutting shows skills but in a game its just crap.

The idea is good but I played one track and didn't bother to play any more. Guitar hero should have kept the guitar songs and DJ Hero should have just had the dance music.

You're thinking too latterally. For one, it takes a lot longer than 20 seconds to line up a GOOD mix. On some complicated tracks you're struggling to get it bang on at all, let alone in a short space of time.
Then there's the fact you can play about with the mixes. I like getting a hook from one tune ready and "cross firing" when you flip in and out of each track to make it sound almost like one song. Thats half the fun of DJ'ing, first there's the satisfaction of getting your mix bang on, then there's the fact you can play with the music. Its even more fun when you have a decent mixer with good sound controls, you can tinker with the bass etc to create smoe good beats.

This game could have been so much more IMO

Oh and NINETY quid - WTF is that all about??

NEWS FLASH Matt ... its a GAME! Its accessible for the masses; and as for the price, enough people rushed out and spent similar on things like Guitar Hero / Rock Band etc?

I also predicted that they would do a DJ hero game, so possibly not the most original suggestion around.

I'd say guitar/band games & DJ are the only 2 that would appeak to the mass public actually. None of that would sell more than a couple of copies.

I paid £55 for Guitar Hero 3 + Guitar. Why is DJ Hero, essentially the same thing, a game and a controller, £35 more?

The thing is someone will be able to master this game in a few days......takes alot of time for someone starting out to be able to beat match let alone scratch. Its just a game isnt it......i know where your coming from...could be so much better, but people wouldnt be able to do it if it was too technical. Im defo not spendig 90 quid on it but its a nice idea that will no doubt sell thousands this christmas and turn up on ebay a week later.

dj'ing is a pile of rubbish anyway, nothing ever sounds good. the game is just ment to be fun it never said "dj hero the real dj simulator" on the box.... just like guitar hero is NOTHING like playing a real guitar nothing in the slightest just because u have a guitar shaped object doesnt make it any more real.
so yeah basically its game, you play the tracks they have put in the game and they dont as you to mix your own stuff etc.

While I agree there's a lot more to playing a real guitar than playing GH, GH is at least close in the idea. I think it would be a little impossible if you put a button for every single note on a guitar.

Mike, I agree, learning to beat match is pretty hard, it took me a while when I first got my decks when I was young. But then I was doing it with headphones and a hi-fi speaker. They have all sorts of computer grapics etc on this that could have aided people. Not to mention they no doubt have different difficulty levels, so easy would have assisted beat matching working up to un-assisted the harder you play it.

there is a pc version of guitar hero that uses a usb adapter for real guitars. then u gave to play the notes and strings it displays on the screen.... so it cant be that difficult to make but they just dumbed it down for the masses

I actually think real guitar is easier with some of the songs! less to think about
