Yet another newbie

Post by matt77 »

Well a couple of you might recognise me from a thread I started not long ago asking what you thought of a certain Ebay item...

Today is the first chance I've had to tinker with it in daylight, gave it a jetwash and a quick spiffing up which as you know is a good way to find kinks. Obviously took some pics too but they didn't come out very well.

The biggest issue is a mystery battery drain and the front bumper. If anybody has a spare bumper in this colour, I'm interested :) What is the colour called by the way?

We also can't figure out what's up with the exhaust - I don't think it's standard? Those huge end-pieces are welded professionally to the system which looks like a standard system from what I can tell.

Hi mate, welcome to IMOC :thumleft:

Colour of the car is called "steel mist grey" I believe. And so many cars in this colour have a lighter shade of paint on the front bumper. 2 tone? :-k

Exhaust looks like an Apexi Super megaphone. Rare exhaust and quiet. Have a look for any Apexi markings or JASMA stamp on it.

Enjoy the MR2 :D

congrats on the purchase
the smg cars always have this problem
the bumper is plastic, surrounding areas are metal, over time it must be something in the smg paint that reacts differently on the plastic than it does on the metal

regarding the battery drain, has the car had an alarm/immob fitted recently or any other device that might have needed wiring in?

Thanks for the welcomes. The bumper is also slightly warped at the offside, some small incident has popped out a few screws and some gaps have developed between it and the black trim. It's only a minor thing.

I'll try to get underneath when it dries up outside but the exhaust doesn't look like the super megaphones on google images - they all seem to be single exit? The actual end piece looks exactly like that though.

I'm suspecting the radio wiring at the mo, a previous owner seems to have just snipped through the loom and not done a very good job of isolating it. I've got a procedure somewhere to help find the fault.

Oh would a car of this year have a factory alarm or immobiliser? I've not seen any evidence of one. It does have remote locking.

i think an alarm was optional, i would be surprised you have got insured on it though if it doesnt have at the very least a cat 2 alarm/immob
