Rev 2 Turbo erratic speedo

Post by frankhovis »

Hi all,

New on here, just bought a rev 2 turbo for some weekend fun (will post up some pics when I get chance). Car is bog standard and is in pretty good condition. The only fault with it is an erratic speedo. Its all over the place and rarely tells the correct speed. It jumps around without the car speed altering.

I know these are electronic but where should I start looking to put it right? Would like to do it myself if poss. The car has a UK speedo fitted but mileage counter is still in Km.

Cheers.

hello mate,

My rev3 speedo does the same however mine is following the fitting of an impulse modifier to change the speed to mph, just a little chip wired in to the speedo input wire. I should have soldered the joints but instead I was lazy and used bullet connectors which I am guesssing are the rote of the problem. Maybe they are higher resistance joints perhaps.

I am not sure what may be the problem with yours other that a loose connection or a dodgy speed sensor on the gearbox. But I thought i'd let you know about my speedo issues in case it helps :)

Sounds like what the cheap speed converter chips do, I had this problem as well :thumleft:

What you want is one of the Clamping delimiter chips but they cost around £60 - £70, That solved my problem :thumleft:

Cheers for the replies. Sorry to sound a bit dim, but where abouts are the chips located? Is it the dash end or gearbox?

Usually the normal place for them is behind the Clocks. I would check it first before ordering a new one just incase a wire has came loose

Until \i can get this sorted, does anyone know if a table exists of how fast a rev2 turbo goes per rpm. I'm sure I've seen one somewhere, but can't bloody find it so may have imagined it!

Could do with a rough idea of how fast I'm going before I trigger a speed camera :?
