[Mk2] [Turbo] Uprated turbo choice

Post by Clearsky »

Looking to fit an uprated turbo on my Rev 4.
Fitted so far
Radtech chargecooler
Apexi power FC
Greddy Boost controller
Berk exhaust and downpipe
SARD FPR

I am not looking for massive power and I don't want to rebuild yet. Opinions please on a suitable turbo whilst keeping the engine safe. :thumleft:

Prob not worth going any bigger than a TD06 unless you go forged.

What parts would you need for the TD06 for the Rev 3?

Are they a case to just bolt on the manifold?

whats the power rating for this turbo?

What about the Garrett range? What would be suitable there.

how about a Holset

Cheap as chips, and very sturdy.

HX35 or a HX40

HY35 might be even better choice if not going to forged... And H1 which I have earlier made SB46 in shame :) Now going to HX40 Super but with that you will need forged and many other parts to make it really work.

The Holset turbos seem to be very popular in your part of the world!

Ive seen a few on a few very high HP cars here - and theyre so cheap compared to the fashionable models

I have just been looking through the previous posts on this and think I will probably go for the Garrett GT2860RS. The kits from TB seem to get good reviews. The Garrett turbos are a little more expensive but I guess you have to pay for quality.

you pay for brand that extra money... Almost everybody who rides high hp in here has holset under their bonnet. Friend RB26 has two hy35 and make 1170hp from the fly. And another friend has 2jz stock block with pro5w and makes over 800hp and runs low 12

The GT2860RS isnt about all out power though, its a very very good turbo for the road, brilliant spool up and still packs a good punch. Not been in one on a MR2, but on a 200sx it seemed fantastic.

They are very good. Due to the roller bearing design the response on them is fantastic. Would be my choice for the road if my ct20b gave up.
