Right, i thought i would create a 'project thread' for my revision 4 Sonic Shadow GT Turbo because i plan on eventually fully rebuilding the engine with a goal of a safe 300bhp @ the wheels. I will also be upgrading suspension/chasis parts along the way as well. This all takes time and money so watch this space...

When i first got it home i took it straight to AVA Performance in Glasgow to get the boost set professionally and have it dyno'd. See graphs and videos below.

After reading Topguns TRD1 thread, he inspired me to tart the rear end of my car up so it's started off with cleaning all the rear in preperation of Hammerite'ing and undersealed with wax oil. Under the rear arches are now ver near immaculate. Just got to do the front then middle then it will be getting sent to Stainless Creations in Falkirk for undersealing.






















Now the engine bay was crying out for an engine wash




I have still to clean under the bonnet, boot, engine cover and engine bay/fire wall.

Next up will be cleaning the above in preperation for powder coating cam cover/inlet etc. Finish cleaning under the arches and underside in preperation for underseal. Major service. And then a respray.

After the above has been done, i will be slowly but surely buying parts for my rebuild.

This wasnt planned (for today anyway) but i was hoovering the boot out and decided i really wasnt happy with how the sides of the boot etc looked so i thought i would blitz it all seeing as i had a spare hour and a half!

I've got issues with cars, i know!

Ok, since owning MR2's i have always loved the Blitz Nur Spec and always wanted one, soooooo....

I finally bought one from 'TUBBY-DEUCE' hear on imoc.co.uk, who has been a total gentleman throughout the transaction! I arranged a courier on my own to collect the exhaust, but he decided off his own back, and out of his own pocket, arrange a second courier to deliver the centre section and flexi seperately to avoid any dents etc while it was in transit! Top bloke!! :th:

Anyway, bought Thursday and got home from work on Friday and found this...

Kind of thought it'd be the Nur!! :roflmao:


As described, it was immaculate!


Seeing as i didnt have the full system i couldnt fit it, so instead i spent 4 hours with steel wool and AutoSOL cleaning it... What a finish!!!



















Good result eh?!

So, it looks like it will be fitted on Monday! Bye bye SARD!!!

Update time! <<< This one has been long awaited (and very costly!!! ).

Firstly i decided to buy a short shifter from Ebay which fitted and works a treat. It also complimented the Razo shifter and recently replaced gear shift bearings.




Next up was the MAJOR service which included the following:

Timing belt
Water pump (including idler and tensioner)
Fuel filter
Rotor arm
Distributor cap
Alternator belt
Powersteering belt
Oil filter
Toyota ForLife coolant
Silkolene PRO S 5w40 fully synthetic engine oil
Silkolene Silktran syn 5 fully synthetic gear oil
NGK Iridium grade 7 spark plugs
A full brake service












I needed to get the major service done first before it went away to the paint shop for a respray! Before it went to the paint shop i decided that i wanted to go down the route of the single side vent so i cut the middle out then got stuck in about it with some fibreglass and filler! When all the interior was stripped out i decided this was a perfect time to hoover under the seats etc before refitting the interior.









Look how bad the bonnet looks before the respray!

What you's think then? I am well impressed with how the car is at the moment!!

Next up:

Maybe lower it a little bit more (Anyone agree?)
Upgrading brakes to either standard discs and Carbotech pads, or CRN grooved discs and similar pads. The addition of braided brake hoses will be made too!
Change the steering wheel to someting a bit smaller
Apexi Power FC and a remap
Full polybush kit

Most of this will be at the start of the new year. Spent enough this year!

I got it from Toyota but i can't remember how much. Need to check receipts then i will reply with a cost.

The water pump came directly from Toyota. It was £85.31 retail, but i got it for £70.81

OK, small update.

Really wasn't happy with how my rain tray looked so off it come. Sanded and flattened then a coat of primer then re-painted black with the addition of a Tein sticker to tart it up a bit! Looks alot better now.








Finished result...


Next on the mile-long list is painting the cam cover, inlet manifold, throttle body, heat-sheilds and some new red vacuum hosing!

Did you use a heat resistant paint???

I used the normal type spray can from halfords.
Just make sure that everything is spotlessly clean, use a degreasant initially like Gunk, but during the painting stages i used the alcohol wipes that you can also get from halfords.
The reason for this was that i oven baked my cam cover and intercooler pipes.
Any grease would have caused the paint to peel.

Yes, but not just that - some people (myself included) use low-power netbook style computers and they can't cope with that many photos in one thread! Not to mention the times I access the site through my phone I'm not complaining about media-rich postings, but it's nice to have the warning
