Anyone got any experience with Toyo T1R's in 205/50/16?

Post by Rahzel »

My fronts are in dire need of replacing and i'm looking to get some toyo's in 205/50/16. My Wheel size is 7j.

Anyone had any experience in this size? I'm wondering about the sidewall as i know they are quite soft on the T1R's.

I'm looking to pair them up with a set of 245/45/16 T1R's to go on my 8.5J rears.

Any info would be appreciated :thumleft:

i had some on my old car running 15's and they were 195 and were realy good tyres so with a smaller tyre wall 205 there going to be better :)

realy good tyre for the money, couldn't fault them.

Cheers mate.

I wanna take advantage of the larger size 8.5j on the rear thats why i'm going for a 245 and not a 225. I wanna try and keep the rolling radius as close as possible thats why i was looking at a 50 profile.

I have been thinking of doing a 205/50-16 front 7j and 245/45-16 8j rear myself.

The front 205/50 on a 7j will be fine (my current 205/45-16 is) and Ford fitted a 205/60-13 to there 2.8i's and all looked fine.

Did ask for some pics on a thread of mine but none turned up.

I've got them in 205/50/16 on the front of my car and they are fine. Front of my cars alot lighter than the MR2 though. I think the soft side wall is only an issue on 15" and with weight one them i.e. 15" on the rear is bad. I have 17" rears so again not an issue.

As said on the MR2 you want 205/45/16. I ran that size up front on all my previous MR2's its the best size :)

These are the sizes I use - and are the best 16" match circumference ratio Front-Back to the factory 195/55 225/50.

I have nothing good to say about the T1R...

But if you are looking for a full car set of any make, it's well worth getting a quote from Bracknell Tyre & Battery. I have been buying from there for at least 7 years and the savings have been significant - worth the trip (But maybe not from Blackburn!)...
They have even special-ordered models in for me when I've wanted to give an odd brand a go.

People do universally slate them as being cheap xxxx. However I think as long as you follow a few "rules" they are ok.

1. don't fit them if theres going to be a lot of side wall combined with weight.

2. don't fit them if your going near a track

3. don't expect them to be anything but crap when 1st fitted (I did about a dozen emergency stop and a few wheel spinning starts before they started to grip - and i mean they REALLY don't grip when new i.e. ABS ice mode triggering bad).

I'd never put them on 15"s on the rear of an MR2.

I only accepted them on my VX220's new set of wheels as a package as after a month I got fed up waiting for Khumo KU31's and they were discounted as an appology to very cheap i.e. sub £200 delivered & fitted for a full set of staggered 17's & 16's

I run T1r's on my N/A. 16's with standard sizes width wise.
I love them and find them to be a great tyre for the price. Some people go on about sidewall flex, but to be honest, I drive like I stole it sometimes and very rarely get anything going on I can't cope with.
If you've got a tubby though, I'm not sure how they would take the extra power?
I think they're brilliant in the rain too.

Also, I don't know of any tyres that grip straight away, as you have to run them in. Even the most expensive bike tyres I've had, always needed cured before max grip was available.
Anything you put on a car new, should always be given mileage before you go full on imo.

On the VX220 & Elise Forums the haters say people say T1Rs are good in the wet because they are so xxxx in the dry

To be honest I think they are good for the price but there are far better tyres available.
