Starting Trouble

Hi,

I have now got my clutch back together and everything on. I have had my lead lamp on off of the battery for two days for quite a long time. It was charged once, but not the second time.

Went to start the car last night, all we could hear was a clicking noise of the starter motor but the car didnt turn over. Im guessing this is because the battery is dead?

Hi.

Could be a flat battery. Try putting the headlights on and trying to start. Do they go really dim?

Id rather not waste the battery finding out thanks all the same.

Ill just leave it on charge for a few more hours

It's most likely the battery but just to check, did you remember to attach the earth cable when bolting the thermostat housing back onto the top of the gearbox?

yep its on there, i remember doing it myself.

It wants to crank but then died after like 1 second, then all you can hear is the starter wherring round.

It seems that I have ran dry of distilled water inside my battery. I've just poured a litre in, so i hope it makes a difference!

Ok its not charging.

These cars and their components really are poo when you are in desperate xxxxxx need!

The components are fine, it's the users maintenance that is usually poo.

It seems i have ran my battery dry and now it won't hold charge

Hardly the cars fault or its components in my honest opinion. From my Green Flag breakdown days 9 out of 10 batteries that were run dry did not recharge when refilled with water due to damage to the battery cells.
