Personally I like the ability to be able to do a backup/restore as easy as you can on the PS3 as opposed to how it is (so I've read) on the Xbox.

That could be to do with the fact that theres no need to do it.

Only thing you may want to do is transfer to a different bigger HDD but im pretty sure you can get a free cable for that.

360 hdds die frequently also if u manage to bend the connector of the hdd (a easy as dropping it) then there is no way to retrieve the data at all.

I've never heard of a HDD failure on a 360. For me, the removable and interchangable HDD on the 360 absolutely owns the PS3 set up.

I love the fact that if I'm going to a mates I can take a few games, my HDD and we can play away with all the stuff I've unlocked and downloaded. PS3, you have to install the game, update the game and then to top it off, start from scratch

the ps3 hdd is removable, ok its behind a little plastic panel and not as "portable" as the stock 360's but any size hdd can be put into the ps3. i have also seen "clip in" modules which extend the connections of the ps3's hdd connectors for connecting any sata hdd externaly and as its a stock pc item, you can use clone software to duplicate software....nice

IIRC you can but it wont recognise more than 120gb? That may change once they release the 250gb model later on this month.

that may quite possibly be true, i just bring my ps3 round......theres plenty of room in the boot for it lol

you cant just "pop" another one in, you have to flash it with keys from you orginal 360 hdd and yeah at the min even if you flash it you can only use 120 gig and some game saves dont work eg forza 2.
i think ms did this because on xbox one the hdd was pretty much soley used for homebrew once hacked. if the xbox one had no hdd it would throw up and error so now they have taken away the need to boot from hdd homebrew will be harder

Anyone else had a bricked PS3 and has contacted Sony, got an email from "PlayStation Customer Care Team" ?

The email contains a link to an online survery on Zoomerang (the link isn't sneakily disguised as many scammers do).

But the bit that got me suspicious was the following question

You've said that you're issue is not being dealt with. Are you happy about this?

I didn't continue after this point as I suspect it's not genuine as surely Sony can do better grammar than this?

Looks a bit risky

I'm not actually sure if Sony will take it back now even if I pay them the £128 as I removed the warranty seal to get CoD4 out
(yes, they warned me not to remove the warranty seal, errr, you've just told me you won't be fixing it for free BECAUSE it's out of warranty )

Can't sell it broken on fleabay as the flash ram contains my online account and can therefore buy & download from the PSN store

May have to get someone else to fix it

If my Ps3 died I reckon i'd just buy a bluray player tbh.
If my Xbox died, I'd get it fixed/buy another one.

My 3 year old phat YLOD'd on Saturday

A mate and I opened it up tonight following a guide on youtube to reflow it and 2 hours later all screwed back together and working again (we just blasted the CPU and GPU with a heat gun for a few mins and slapped a new layer of thermal paste on each with a trusty tesco club card) BOB ON!!!

Will be interesting to see how long it lasts though, Will back up everything ASAP just in case as all the companies on the net who charge £50+ to do exactly the same don't sound to confident when you talk warranty LOL I found 1 company that actually re-ball the chips which should be as good as new if not better and for £75 that ain't bad really but they still only give you 6 months warranty

Check your vents people, That's why mine cooked itself. It's not had a proper clean for a while and all the vents were blocked up with clumps of think dust.

i fixed my bros the start of the year and its still going now, fixed another a few weeks ago and thats been ok also since. obviously everyone is different so some may only last a few hours. i usually cook mine in the oven for 15mins then repaste it and put it back together works great

You did what now to a CPU???

Mine hasnt missed a beat in 3 years, touching as much wood as possible I notice that the vents get a fair bit of dust on the surface, is it worth opening it up and giving it a good hoover?

My PC gets fair to much dust inside after a few months of use.

dont vacume clean any electrical items chap, static is not their friend! use a can of air or "air blaster" spray. safe, non static and super fun to do

Didnt know that Dyson make static. I have an air compressor I can use, but didnt want to shoot water or oil particals at the internals.

I rang Sony (what a waste of time and money that was) No repair service whatsoever, only exchange like for like (at the price you said with crap warranty)

The slims run an eco freindlier chipset and don't get as hot
