Rocker gasket on rev3

Post by MaRt2009 »

Hello everyone, im new to the site but im also a member of mr2oc.

Tomorrow(well today lol) im replacing my rocker gasket on my rev3 as ive found one of the sparkplus clynders(spelling) had a puddle of oil at the bottom of it.
Im no novice to engines but this is the first time ive worked on an mr2 engine, and just wondered if there was any suprises i would be in for?

Any help would be great!

Getting my mr2 ready for it MOT on monday so il be adjusting the hand break too!

Anyway thanks for reading, looking forward to any helpfull replys!

Cheers!

hi there

I wouldn't say the mr2 has any surprises as such - it's not particularly hard to work on: you'll quite quickly get used to removing the boost pipes and engine side panels.

One area that is a pain is the cat - the bolts are hard to access, and if not touched will need destroying to remove (as will exhaust bolts probably)

still, you won't be toching that.

cam cover is easy enough to do - I'd get some instant gasket from halfords (black silicone stuff) and put a smear of that around the old gasket - unless you've got a new one which probably won't need it.

Have a read of this thread:

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=123617

Things to note:

* Even if you are putting a new gasket in, you will still need instant gasket as well in the 6 points indicated by the BGB diagram in that thread
* DON'T overtighten the bolts, I can't stress that enough
* If you want to future-proof your work then you need to do both gaskets and replace the rubber washers as well, otherwise the bolts will just work loose and the gasket will fail

could high temp thread lock be used to help with the problem of the cam bolts coming loose?

mine seem to remove themselves from the engine willingly
