DILEMMA

Post by DazzaRev5Turbo »

My 2 needs the following work:

Bonnet has 2 pin dents so needs to be replaced or filled and resprayed at a bodyshop
Drivers seat is torn in the common place
The N/S rear abs sensor needs replacing as it has snapped (maybe a 2nd hand hub would be the solution)
The front splitter (bomex UAD) has a crack so needs fixing and respray
Rear O/S cv joint needs replacing

I am in a rush to release funds to put towards a new car which is why I have the dilemma of what to do. I have advertised my car (Rev 5 Cosmos blue turbo) for £5,995!! as it is, but I think the work required is enough to put most people off.

Do I just bite the bullet and start having the work done to then sell the car straight away or what price is a fair price to ask as it stands???

A rough spec is as follows:

80,500 Miles, 7 months M.O.T, 6 months TAX
GTR2 MRD sideskirts, MRD Rear Spats, Bomex Front Splitter
17" OZ wheels - 8J ET35, Toyo P1 tyres all round, with a staggered fitment 235/35/17 & 215/35/17.
Limited edition recaro interior
Full stainless steel twin exhausts with a lifetime guarantee.
Kenwood touch screen double din - multi audio device which has built in SAT NAV, DVD Player, Freeview TV, Alpine Speakers, Alpine amp and a sub behind seat.
Thatcham 1 Alarm / Immobiliser with cert
Recently serviced, Cam belt change Jan 2008

** I will be adding an advertisement to the site later this evening**

I think if you adverstise a car with a list of problems you'll scare alot of people off as they will think you didnt fix it yourself because you either

a) couldnt be bothered (means you probably didnt maintain the car well)

or

b) Think it will cost alot to do.

The people that you dont scare off will probably think that they can get a bargain as it needs work so will offer low.

I think as a minimum you will need to replace the abs sensor and cv as dash lights coming on / vibrations / wobbles / strange noises etc will be the biggest things to put people off

thing i agree.
these 2 things alone would scare most who are only "ok" at diy maintainance.
and could feel a big garage bill if trying to sort those 2 things out.
a slgihtly ripped seat, and bodywork bits would not, and shouldnt bother to many folk as only cosmetic.

thanks for the feedback, and i can see the points you have raised as being very true.

I have just spoken to a company who will pick up and deliver back the whole drive shaft re conditioned for circa £120 + vat, does this sound reasonable?

The ABS sensor is £100 at toyota or i see a seller named GTS Chris selling 2nd hand hubs with sensor complete for £40 - £50.

Does anyone agree / disagree that if this work was completed then an asking price of £5,995 would be reasonable??

JimGTS - I appreciate your point re: being offered a lower amount but weighing that up against time repairs will take from me i would be more than happy to sell at a v reasonable price which is where i am in 2 minds again!

I am guessing but i think the spliiter and bonnet would cost around £250 at a bodyshop

so bodyshop 250
driveshaft 140
sensor 50 -100

roughly £500 spend to sell for £5,995

which means to me £5500 is probably not going to attract much interest as is so i may need to re-evaluate that :o)

Definitely agree with Jim that any mechanical stuff should be sorted.

Yep totally reasonable.

Good Rev5 Turbos are still fetching top dollar in Japan - http://www.goo-net.com/english/

There are some on there for 1.4m Yen and over, i.e. £9k and over!

I'm looking at a White Rev5 GT-S, 60,000km for 1.6mY, or £10,800

Seems most run out models over there are fetching top money, I was thinking of trying to get myself a Spirit R RX7, one of the last 1500 produced in 2002, but they are selling for between £20-23k
