boost problem :(

I got a rev 2 1992 turbo, iv got NGK spark plugs, aftermarket air filter, and i just fitted a downpipe. i put some normal 95 ron fuel in and some fuel injector cleaner.* i also fitted a FCD as i was getting fuel cut!

i was doing about 70 when all of the sudden i lost serous power. the boost was just flat and the car now makes a burbley noise that it dident before. (could be what the car sounds like with no turbo whistleing up)

where as before the boost with start whistleing up at 2500 3000 rpm and get instant power,
it now comes in at 3k and you really have to put your foot to the floor to get that.

where as before having the pedal just a inch down would create nice power. also, at about 5 grand i only get a about 3 quaters of the power i did originally.
This is really depressing. iv tried recetting the ECU. nothing.
any ideas guys would be great.

man if i remember correctly you have just fitted an xpower decat. i fitted one today and am having exactly the same problem. really bezarre and cant figure out what could have caused it.

Wow, im glad im not alone.. so, you had mean power before and now its worse than it was before the downpipe?

I put an XS DP on my tubby about a month ago and had a boost problem. Im running 1 bar of boost and when I put the downpipe on I didnt hit full boost till 4000 rpm. I found out that the gasket supplied with the DP was fouling the ACTUATOR arm, thus stopping me from creating boost untill high rpm.

the actuator does not appear to be sticking out. i put my foot down again today, and it only seems to get full boost towards the end of the rev range with my foot down is that the same with you hicks?

are you getting really nasty driving charachteristics on mild throttle too?

i.e, its a bit hesitant unless your foot is fully planted?

ok spent the day trying to sort this out and things seem to be getting worse. tryed to sort out my cat temp sensor as the thread was different to the thread on the downpipe hole. need to get a 14mm thread bolt to plug it up but cant seem to get one and drove round for over an hour trying to find my local hardware store but to no avail but no know where they are so will sort that out tommorow.

next i tryed bending the actuator clear of the turbo flange and things are worse im now not getting any boost what so ever until 5000 rpm but there is no rough running.

HELP!!!

like i said it was fine before the dp was fitted and pulled like a train.

mid throttle, yes, it sounds different but ok. we got 3 heads working on this now. xxxx all boost till 5 grand and even then it aint top notch.

im sure we shall have this sorted out soon,

Have you taken the DP off yet to see if the wastegate is fully closed. I know its a pain in the ar$e but to be sure youll need to. The wastegate could be fouling the DP inside....

You shouldnt be useing 95 ron fuel!! If i run on 95 my car feels flat and slow. I used to use optimax 98 ron but now i use Tesco 99 ron! Youll notice the difference. Fill up with a tank of Super unleaded then reset your ECU and youll notice the difference!

yea, i dont wanna get off subject but i usually use 97 ron fuel. i just happen to use 95 that day. 99 ron fuel aye.. where was that to? are they still testing it? becuase i havent seen it at any tesco near me!

im staying away from tesco 99 ron. eat through a tank in 150miles, back on optimax and thats nearly doubled and been steady since.

Therse only a few tescos selling it. Ive done 5 tanks of it now and noticed a nice performance increase! Got 323 miles from a tank too!! If you use 95 ron fuel in your tubby it will more than likely go into safe mode and not boost/accelerate properly.

thats interesting, but it isent in safe mode because the boost needle is going right to the top..

Perhaps your boost is still showing but because of crap fuel the ECU is retarding the ignition. ( Could be wrong though)

Lol! I normally only get about 225 miles from a tank. 323 miles was driving to 3S service centre and back (all but about 20 miles of the tank was motorway cruising (65-70mph) Trust me, my turbo spools up nicely!!
