Coilovers PREVENTING a wider rim ?!?!?!

Post by CosmosblueMR2 »

hi.. just got my refurbed Work Equip Split rim alloys back and guess what.. they don't fit on my car

I've spent along with refurb and tyres £1400 for these and now the fronts do not fit whith my coilovers.

could someone in Essex maybe do me a favour... I would like to try and fit one of the fronts to another 2 to see if it's my coilovers ... because things dont add up to me :

ok so they rub the coilover on the inside of the wheel (massively cos you can't even get the nuts back on the wheel it's that bad)

and also - this is the strange bit... they are proud of the arch ... my thinking was that if the offset was such as to rub the coilover strut/spring then they would not be proud of the arches ASWELL !

I need help... anyone got a spare half hour...

I will be selling these wheels if i can't get them to fit (just a heads up for anyone who might be interested)

Sorry to hear that mate. What width are the rims?

If you're need to test it when it's running, I can pop over as well and you can try one on mine.... it'll be your old front shock as well!

(Lovely looking rims BTW! )

Sorry to hear that Frank, Wish i'd have known what width's/offset's they were, Could have offered some advise.

Coilovers remove the offending strut so you can fit bigger wheels/tyres if required but due to the extra width force you to run a lower offset :(

IIRC it was Mikejc who corrected me some time ago when i told someone that 7.5x17 et40 wheels wouldn't fit their car (i forgot to take suspension into account and was going off my car) as he said he was running 7.5x17 et42 without any probs. I'm running 7.5x17 et35 on mine and there's just enough room to get a piece of paper between the rear of the rim and the coilover

Those wheels must be massive if they're hitting the coilovers AND protruding from the arch.

You sure you've tried the front wheels and not a rears? :-k

I did think that myself at first ! - the fronts are 8J - rears are 9J

I did have them refurbished - just hope the wheel place put the inner hubs back with teh correct rims !! (split rims  )

find out this weekend if they fit on a 2....

should do .. the fronts are either 32 or 35 offset on 17" x 8J 0 that should be ok with coilovers yes ????!!!!

Looking at the size difference between my OE front shox and TEIN coilovers I would imagine you could fit almost anything you wanted on the front!!

The difference was massive.

No it doesn't you're right. If you get all wheels next to each other is there still a clear difference in size?

Although I guess there must be otherwise the tyres wouldn't fit properly. :-k
