!! HELP - Advice needed !!! Newby looking to buy a car

Post by mumra »

Hi All .. new here so please ignore my ignorance :)

Just been to look at an MR2 rev 3 import with the missus (as it's for her) and need some advice from the experts. The car is;

NO SERVICE HISTORY! Have got last mot and UK reg docs
£1300
78k (confirmed as last dvla logged milage was 72k in Jan)
M 94, import 98
Cat D - 2004

Everything looks tidy on it. No rust, all the extras that should be there etc.
THere is a slight squek when depressing the clutch. Sounds like the cable but I could be wrong.

So guys what do you think?. Is it worth the money??.

If the clutch is going then for that price we can get it done but again, how much is getting a clutch fitted going to be?
Also, a full service with all the belts changed (cam etc), how much do you think thats gonna be?. Have been quoted £300 for a cambelt change.. any good?

I thinki it seems like a nice motor but it just seems too good!! :) .

If the numbers match up and you guys confirm what I think they she'll prob get it tonight but all help you could give would be appreciated.

Thanks :thumleft:

My clutch pedal/cable squeeks aswell, and has done since I have had it, so I wouldnt worry about that too much.

Im sure one of the affiliates will be able to sort you out with prices.

Cheers for the swift response mate.

I am aware that the cars 15 years old and there will be niggles but can anyone confirm the reliability of these motors. I.e. I want to ensure that theres not gonna be any problems during the winter months etc.

Servicing and maintaining it given, can I expect such a car to be a money pit?? Thus I end up going #-o

IIRC Its the pivot fork on the clutch that is making the squeek noise. Its normaly because it hasnt been lubricated. I dont think it's much of a dealbreaker.

Any records of oil/coolant changes? Also it may be due a timing belt soon.

Newbie here as well, but just curious, isn't 1300k too cheap for a JDM Rev3 turbo?

I got mine for around 2k+ its almost immaculate except crack in the front lip.

Good price just make sure they know what they are doing LOL :)

So it was a CAT D write off, any pics of the damage it had at all ?

even tho cat D is not the worse CAT write off it can still be heavy damage.

Check the ploor pans see if there has been any movement and make sure all the body work lnies up ok..

CAT D can range frm a sinple scratch on a bumper to a car needing to go on a jig..

So get it checked over proper, if your not sure what your looknig for try and find someone that does.

If it all seems good then that price is good, milage good, not much really goes wrong with these cars if you look after them well :)
