Mk1a Sherwood toning - project - ALL OFFERS CONSIDERED

Post by c29dmt »

I have just learned that my job is at risk. I was going to start this project over the winter but now it is not really feasible.

It is a 1985 C reg mk1 sherwood toning
Engine starts and runs OK
Been parked up for 4 years so rear brakes are solid - tried freeing them up but not succeeded
101k miles
Very original car - needs work though

I know I will not get back what I paid for it but I could do with clearing it of my drive really. It is a real shame that as a result of the economic climate I cannot fix her up.

Dont want to scrap it either - although there is a breaker nearby who has expressed an interest.

I am located in Hampshire. Will take £500 from an enthusiast who will look after her.

Is there no interest in this??

Seems a shame to scrap it as the car is a fairly rare colour mk1a.

The car has NEVER failed an MOT. The previous owners had a marriage breakup and the car was parked up and forgotten about.

Engine is good - the previous owner had the head gasket done 500 miles OK. Starts 1st time but has not been driven for a while.

Interior is in good original condition - seats do not have holes etc.

Had a replacement sunroof at the same time as the HG.

Front wings were replaced but are going again.

NO rust on the roofline above the windscreen.

If it wasn't for my job loss - I would strip it down as I love the Sherwood colour.

I am in Andover

A breaker is sniffing around the car but it seems a real shame for that to happen. However, if nobody wants to buy it on here then I will need to break it.

What condition are the rear arches, sills and A and B pillars? Pictures suggest major rust is on the front end which seems unusual although I'm not an expert on the 1A - has it had a minor shunt or something?

I assume it is SORN and will need to be towed away?

TBH I am up to may neck in a 1B resto at the mo but like you I have a soft spot for the colour and would hate to see it scrapped unnecessarily - and I happen to be in Hampshire myself.

Major rust is on the front end. There rear arches are not great but the front is worst. No - it is clear for accidents - the previous owner changed both wings but I suspect used bad quality replacements!

A panel is clean
B pillar has rust at the bottom
Sills look OK - not had it properly on a ramp. It has had welding done in the past.

Yes -it is SORN and would need to be towed. The rear brakes are seized solid so the car will need to be "coaxed" onto a trailer. Been parked up for a while now.

I love the colour and would hate to scrap it

The previous owner has confirmed that at the time of the HG being skimmed (500 miles ago) - the car had a reconditioned starter motor and a new radiator.

Another bump :)

I have had lots of enquiries on the car but no takers yet. I have a firm offer from somebody who wants to break her but that seems such a shame!

Surely somebody wants to save a Mk1a Sherwood. They are quite rare and you do not see them all the time.

It would be a real shame to send this one to the breakers

Ideally I think it should be saved so have reduced my asking price to match it.

If nobody wants it then it will be broken.
