[Mk2] [Turbo] adjusting fan belt!! please help

Post by mad86_2000 »

Hi, i have recently tried adjusting my fan belt, i loosened the 14mm bolt at the bottom of the alternator and started to turn the adjuster bolt, now the fan belt didn't seem to get any tighter so i kept going, and low and behold after a few turns, the adjuster bolt snapped, now i am in xxxx streak, lol, i have come up with a soloution on how to get it out but am wondering if i have done something rong, are there any more bolts on the alternator i have to loosen befor trying to adjust the tension as the alternator hasn't seemed to moove or tightened the belt and left me with a snapped bolt which is going to be an absoloute nightmare to get out. if this has happened to anybody else, please let me know how you got the remaining part of the bolt out, mine is the cam belt side of the bolt, i have a soloution of how to get it out but dont know if its going to be a success yet, i know its going to be a nightmare

Hi,

There is a lock bolt that you can get to from the top (The one you missed?) and the pivot bolt on the bottom. More details in the BGB:

You could post a pic of the snapped bolt, I'm sure someone will be able to advise on how to get it out when you can see where it has snapped.

It will probably be easier just to remove the alternator and bracket to repair the snapped bolt. :eye:
