1 Key fits all locks

Post by nigel_bytes »

when i got my 2 i was only given 1 key and the only locks that worked was the drivers door and ignition.
Decided to see if i could fix the other locks, passenger side, boot, glovebox, cubby box etc.
So heres a little how-to. Heres the boot lock and this applies to other locks too.

isnt that how it is supposed to be?
ie - one of the 2 main keys (the master) opens everything and the other just the door and ignition?

my master key has never worked in the glove box, but works in all other locks.. it seems I may have had a new glove box at some point

I found this old thread and decided to give a bump to it.

It may be that the master key is so worn that it works like valet key in lock(s) that are used only now and then. My master key did fit to doors, ignition and boot, but new key made to factory specs did open also T-tops, glove box and box behind passenger seat. (USDM Turbo has locks in T-tops.)

I managed to find photos taken from master and valet key and there is only one tiny difference close to tip. And that is where at least my key was really worn. That is the point which goes through all pins and does most of the work.

So I think that the resolution to the above problem would not have been using dremel but purchasing a new master key.

Can anybody confirm that the only difference between master and valet key is in first pin?
