Drag Tyres

Post by StevieL »

Which are the best ones to use for an Mr2 turbo with BPU's?(250-350hp)

Ive been looking at R888's, BF Goodridge drag radials, MT Drag radials and Toyo T1R's.

Only stipulation they have to be radials.

(if this isnt a "Guru" question feel free to move it somewhere else)

Mickey Thompson street radials are by far the softest and will offer you the best grip but are also the least 'streetable' - you'd have to be a bit mad to drive with them on the road whereas the toyo R888's and the T1-R's are essentially road tyres.

Unless your pushing 350-400 you'd be hard pushed to make the most of drag radials so i'd recommend going for the R888's - that way you could do a track day too

Just to add, Federal do a street legal semi slick similar to the Toyo R888, No sure how it perfoms in comparison but they are priced a bit cheaper but they don't have as wider fitment range as the R888.

hopefully in a couple of weeks I'm going to be running 450-500bhp and i want to buy a pair of suitable drag tires.

I don't however want to put my driveshafts etc under too much stress (more than they already are!)

What tires would you recommend Nathan and where is a good place to buy from?

Cheers

It depends on how far you want to go with the tyres. A pair of R888's would be decent. The next step up is some street legel drag tyres but these are serious tyres that are only really useable on the strip.

With the power level your going to be at i'd strongly recommend a set of uprated CV joints, then you know your shafts will stand up to any tyres you want to fit ;)
