electric aerial...some help please

Post by newmr2owner »

ial Hi guys and gals

Not been on for a while, but my aerial has just stopped working.

I have found the sticky in the KB to dismantle but just wondering if anyone knows which bits I shuld be fixing/replacing.

My arial never went all the way down but was only the last 2 inches so didnt bother me, now its only the bottom 2 inches that do work.
When I turn the car on the aerial goes up a few inches then stops and I have to pull it up to get signal. the motor is workingfine and trying to put it up. Then when car is turned off I have to put the aerial down manually until the last few inches.
It salmost like it isnt grabbing the mast to bring it back down, would this mean broken teeth??

Also as these units arent the best anyway, has anyone done a bee sting conversion or know the best way to do this? I was thinking I could fit a bee sting to the centre of the roof(at the back as its a t-bar), remove roof lining cut and fit and rewire direct from stereo thorugh roof lining and doors.

Would then just be a case of fibreglass and flller over old hole.

???????????

Theres a post and a link somewhere on here regarding doing away with the aerial and smoothing it off and running a new aerial round the inside of the boot and concealing it in the centre panel. Think these are available on ebay cheap aswell and apparently the reception isnt affected. Gona do this myself when I get round to it, I think it will look much better with no aerial showing at all.

Couldnt find anything at twosrus for aerials.

Have been looking about and quite like the look of the shark fin aerials if I decide to move it to the roof, If I move the wiring so it is all in the cabin I should get beter reception too as it wont go near the engine.

As has been said you can get an aerial that fits behind the rear panel between the lights that offers great reception then get rid of the old aerial and motor to save weight, fill the hole and make good the paintwork... jobs a good 'un.
This is the way I'll be going when I have funds for it (Polybushes, ball joints and new window regulators next though!). If you do a search you may find the post where it's discussed.
