This is what happens when..

Here is what happens when...

This is what happens when someone you really like absolutely crushes you! Then you feel the need to go for a massive blatt! But before hand you have to top up your oil level! Then proceed to drive like a xxxx 7 miles in 4 minutes to top your fuel up and then go for another crazy blatt!

Only problem is that I forgot to put my oil filler cap back on and these were the consequences!!

Tomorrow I have the fun of removing quite a lot of stuff and cleaning everything.

Oil has completely submerged spark plug number one and part of number two because of the gasket is complete and utter xxxx! From the initial start up oil exploded into the cover down the inside of it and then splashed out over the top smothering my rear windscreen – all without me noticing!!
Oil all over the alternator belt, engine mounts, fuel rail, injectors – you can get the gist!

Thankfully the oil cap was wedged inside the engine side panels so when I was filling up at the garage i suddenly noticed a mess on my engine cover, then twigged that id forgotten to refit it! So i could actually put the cap on again after swearing at myself!!!

My engine bay looks messier than that and I've never thrashed the car with no oil cap on. :o

what is a little more worrying is that you needed to thrash the life out of your mk1 just because someone upset you.... get a grip mate!

Been there done that........... but not quite that messy. Gunk and a pressure washer, then a day removing water from places it shouldnt be. Once you do it once you will never do it again.

Can not beat a good blast to sort a little stress, within local speed limits obviously!

And dont worry mate I am sure everyone has left an oil cap off at some point.

I spent most of the day yesterday cleaning it all up. Doesn't help with the exhaust flexi now completely blown so it sounded like the big ends had gone this morning!

I had to take the injectors off as well as they had a brown coating all over of them only for me to split the o-rings when putting them back in and then once again cleaning the fuel off of the inlet manifold!

Runs okay now, except its hunting for some reason - hoping its the exhaust.

I know a chap who is a damn good valet and I will ask him to steam clean my engine bay. But my question is, how do I get rid of all the oil and grime on the inside of the engine cover??

Well, you could get cross again and drive through a few puddles.

Puddles didnt work tonight lol

I have more problems now though. Since removing the injectors to give them a clean I am running on three cylinders :( got good compression in all cylinders, all plugs are sparking.

we took one injector plug from 'no 3' and put it on '4' and the other way around and it stopped and was working on all 4 cylinders. Why could that be? there was some oil that i didnt clean out of the injector plugs, could that be shorting out the injector and causing it to run lumpy on three?

hello mate, thought id register on here to help out a fellow mk1 owner, ive had experience with this same problem,
there is a block that is on the back of the inlet manifold this has a couple of small hoses coming out,
if u look hard u will see a 1mm hole were some pastic has broken off,if you put your finger over the hole and start her up it will idle proper,
i put some gun gum over the hole ,cos obviously it hardens with heat..only a temp fix untill i can be bothered to fix it,
mine was running at 950rpm from cold!! if u still need help mate il put sum pics up.
