1998 Cosmos Blue rev5 TBar - UK car with rare aircon option

Post by shinny »

As I have just bought Flamby's Caribbean Blue rev3 GT-S TBar, the time has come to sell on my lovely rev5 NA TBar. I've owned it since 1st March 2008 and am only moving on because I felt boost was calling me!

To cut to the chase I'm asking for £3500. However I could do with the car being sold before I go away for a fortnight in late August, so I am open to offers for a prompt, easy sale. I am also open to offers involving PX valued up to £1k - I'm looking for a reliable daily driver with 5 doors and aircon. A Ford Mondeo (98-01) would be my preference but feel free to try me...

Below there are some pictures of the car and an honest description of the vehicle.

More pictures here: http://www.mr2oc.co.uk/forums/57/118481.html

She's a lovely example, but with any 11 year old car that's been a daily driver, she's not perfect. Therefore I want to be honest about the car's condition...

The good:
* 1998 MR2 GTi-16 TBar
* Rare Cosmos Blue metallic paint (cost option when new)
* Air Conditioning (cost option when new)
* Just over 84,400 miles
* Tax until end of August 2009
* MOT until late February 2010
* 17" TSW Heat alloys (unfortunately with kerb damage)
* UniRoyal Rainsport II tyres (205/4017 front 215/40/17 rear) with good tread
* A'PEXi Power Intake with custom hard induction pipe
* Stock airbox included
* Sony CD/MP3/Radio installed
* Stock Radio/Cassette included
* Single DIN storage box
* Radiator, aircon condensor, alternator and rear drop links replaced within last 18 months
* Cambelt changed at 60,000miles.
* New front disks and pads either installed or supplied with car (depending if I can get them fitted in time)
* No TBar leaks
* TBar blinds and bags are present
* Full leather interior
* Factory fit alarm working perfectly
* Documented service history (last two services carried out by myself)
* Car is reliable and servicable

The bad:
* Small ding in wing caused by passer by last week, as pictured below
* Scuffs on driver's side bolster
* Sometimes gearshift is slightly notchy, as is typical of mkIIs
* Bearing noise from aircon compressor
* Slight bearing noise from thrust release bearing
* Minor car park scuffs etc.
* Minor, intermittent steering wheel wobble at indicated 80mph (possibly caused by runout on current front disks)

The ding mentioned above:

When I bought the car I ran an HPI check and from what I remember there were two items flagged up:

* The car has a colour change against it, as it was mistakenly registered as green originally by the DVLA! Rest assured the car has not been resprayed. The paintcode on the VIN plate is correct (943 - Cosmos Blue) and even underneath the car the chassis is definately painted purple. In fact, Toyota never painted the rev5 green.
* The car was first registered on a private plate which is no longer on the vehicle, so there is a plate-change against the vehicle.

Viewings are welcome by appointment although test drives will only be allowed with evidence of valid insurance and if you crash it, you've bought it. Serious buyers only please - no agencies, no test-pilots and no dreamers.

That about sums up the car. Thanks for taking time to read my advert - feel free to contact me by PM with any questions.

nice example and a good advert...!!
Just a quick note that one of my old cosmos blue MR2's was also orginally registered as green then colour change notified to DVLA.. Guess it must have come from the same colour blind dealership..!! :mrgreen:

Goodluck with it.

Thanks Rash :thumleft:

Richard @ Showcase Sport Cars told me he'd had a few Cosmos cars come in like that... no idea how the DVLA managed it! :lol:

An MR2OC member came to view the car last night and has gone away to do some sums. Their comment was that the bad points I'd listed are me being pedantic... for example, the picture of the ding makes it look ten times worse than it actually is!

Anyway, here's a more zoomed out picture of the ding to put it in context:

I now have an offer that's just a little too low to take after only four days of being advertised. (It's not even gone on PH yet!). If she doesn't sell for more than that offer before my holiday on 14th August then she'll be going to a very good home for a bargain price!

However until then she's still on the market... :thumleft:
