[Mk2] [Turbo] Blitz SBC ID Spec R Installation

Post by Marf »

I've just bought myself a Blitz SBC ID Spec-R boost controller.

Can anyone tell me where they have mounted the solenoid?

Also how you have attached the control unit to the dash?

I mounted mine on a Plate down under the induction kit, just left of the charcoal canister. Can't miss it because there's what looks like a drop link/engine mount infront of it.

The wiring ran up behind the firewall heat shield and into the cabin behind the firewall carpet (there is a gromet you can push the wiring through)

Run it down the back of the carpen then there's a gap down the bottom next to the drivers side floor pan cubby box you can get them through, run it under the plastic sill cover (this pops up on clear clips) then take it under the panel near your right foot where the bonnet release is, and you can either take it up and out to mount on the steering wheel cowling or fix somewhere else. :thumleft:

Cool, thanks for the advice Matt.

I'm also looking at making the controller removable, if leaving the car somewhere it'd be good to be able to remove it along with the stereo.

Thinking of using these

Male Connector
Female Connector

You use the velcro sticky patches mate and mount under the steering column you wouldn't need to, otherwise you could use bulet connectors and a vac hose joiner yeah.

Mine is the SBC ID, not the DSBC, sorry didnt make that clear in my OP.

So it'd need a new m/f plug installed inline to make it removable.

Cool, just need to wait till it arrives so I can confirm the number of wires in the cable, if its six then that Ducati connector looks ideal.

i stuck mine under the stereo, i used the toyota single din blanking unit and i made holes in the side so the wires could be fed through.

i then used connectors from maplins and cut them into the wiring and pushed them behind the blanking unit then used velcro from halfords to stick them to the blanking unit, when i left the car i removed them easily with the mods used and stuck them in my cd cover, easy...

Cool, looks good.

Have you run any of the extra inputs into the Power Meter like revs and speed?

Cool, good to know. Did you ever play with the speed based boost control?

no, just set it and used that setting all the time, tbh using the speed based boost control will only make the setting more dificult and probably end up yeilding you less power, just set it to your max and be done with it :eye:

if you mount it in the centre vent like i did, there should be room to clip the air vent back in front of the display when you park up if you modify the vent piece.

obviously no good if you bought a silver one

stealth rather than removing it though :-k

I decided to mount my boost control solenoid on the side of the fuse box to keep it out of the pouring rain and away from heat...avcr but still same thing...I may adapt a fitting plate and mount it underneath the afm now I've read this thread but I thought it made sense to not have it exposed to possible sudden cooling from a downpour...used the same principle to locate my pressure sensor.

OK, my SBC arrived this morning, but I'm slightly concerned that the supplied cabling wont be long enough?

Where have people:-

tapped a vac line?
tapped earth/power?
mounted the small grey box?

vac line from the tvis or the plenum has an out on the back of it,hard to access but a good place to tap in...I had boost control solenoid, boost guage and bov plumbed in together and Skywalker used the force, putting me on to the right path...too many in a line is not a very good idea.
Is it live and earth from the ecu or not? If not the yellow and red wires from the ignition are lives...I think the red is permenant live and the yellow is only live when you turn the key to on.

tapped a vac line? the map sensor (going to use the spare take-off on the back of the inlet manifold when the engine goes back in)
tapped earth/power? ciggy lighter
mounted the small grey box? under the drivers seat

just run the vac line through the gromet by the I/C
