Garrett GT3037 Turbo

Post by Bender Unit »

Does anyone know the specification of this turbo and also possibly a compressor map?

Also has anyone had prior experience of this turbo as I would be interested in your impressions regarding spool time, general response etc.

Needing to decide on a turbo, otherwise I may have to refit my stock CT20 to get the car back on the road for the time being.

Thought this post might be of interest. Taken from the US boards

"Mitsu
16g = 34lb/min
EVO III Big 16g = 42lb/min
20g = 44lb/min

Garrett
50-trim = 47lbs/min
57-trim = 49lbs/min
60-trim = 50lbs/min
60-1 = 65lbs/min
62-1 = 70lbs/min

GT Turbo's
GT25R = 42lb/min (60trim, .64a/r turbine)
GT28R =28lb/min (60trim, .64a/r turbine)
GT28RS =30lb/min (62trim, .86a/r or .64a/r turbine)
GT30R =55lb/min (56trim, 1.06a/r or .82a/r turbine)
GT35 = 60lb/min (52trim, 1.18a/r turbine)
GT35R =65lb/min (56trim, 1.06a/r or .82a/r turbine)

GT30 (ball bearing) turbos:

48 trim = 44lbs/min
52 trim = 50lbs/min
56 trim = 55lbs/min
60 trim = 60lbs/min
gt35 trim = 65lbs/min

Turbine Conversion:

Mitsu = Garrett
6cm2 = .41 a/r
7cm2 = .49 a/r
8cm2 = .57 a/r
9cm2 = .65 a/r
10cm2 = .73 a/r
11cm2 = .81 a/r
12cm2 = .89 a/r

((CM x 8) - 7) / 100 = a/r ratio

Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

Just say NO to small turbos!

I have the 3037s on my motor and it starts to spool at about 3000 revs and full boost is reached at about 3600 Revs. Nice kick too :wink: :D

Thanks for the info Steve, I have come across that post but it doesn’t seem to answer many of my questions. :S

The manifold I have will take a T3 exhaust flange, I intend to run a T3/T4 for obvious reasons. I was trying to gauge the performance and specs of other turbo’s on the market to help me decide the specifications of the turbo I will fit.

Thing is I am getting quite confused by all of the information. I have read RickyB’s power primer on compressor maps and how to calculate the power from a turbo etc. However there seems to be a lot of other conflicting information out there as to what turbo’s work and what don’t.

I was thinking about the 3037 as it seems to spool relatively quickly and can also make some decent power. I suppose its safe to presume that 450RWhp is around 500FWbhp. As the car will no longer be a drag car response is more important to me than outright BHP.

What do you reckon?

Dan,

Thanks for the information regarding your experiences with the turbo. Sounds good and if it can deliver the goods I am after power wise. Its just trying to find out what sort of compressor / turbine it has.
