Leaky t-bars

Post by rowey200 »

My t-bars have started to leak. Before I go down the silicone route i've heard that 'Holts' do some sort of Silicon Lubricant that works a treat to bring the rubber back to life?

Anyone used this or have any other tips for stopping the leaks?

Cheers in advance :thumleft:

Tried eccentric rod guides?

Failing that, buy a hard top

Halfords do a spray can (Yellow) of Rubber & Silicon rejuvinator, used it a couple of times on the T Bar rubbers in the past and does an excellent job, makes the seals swell back up.

About £8 a can but well worth it.

Likewise I tried it and it did indeed work for a while. Then the leaks started again and I went for the sealant fix with eccentric guides... lasted about 18mths. In the end about 6mths ago I bit the bullet and got new seals from the states... no more wet floors at last!
Wait till the exchange rate picks up again and go for new seals if you're planning on holding on to it for a while.

Hiya mate. So far as I can recall they worked out at about £150 inc p&p. The same as Mr T here in the UK wanted for just one side!
Try a search for Dallas Toyota ... they operate a worldwide delivery service and online ordering.

defo spend your cash and get new seals mate, i tried three different methods on fixing mine and each would only last so long, would have save myself a little heart ache if i had just bitten the bullet first time around :eye:

... and don't forget if you do get new seals to keep treating them with a preservative... best not let them perish again!

try this as well - I need to redo drivers front corner but it certianly does do a good job as I can't hear the passenger side creak anymore

As a quick fix, though, better than the Halfords spray lube is actual silicon grease from a tube. Hard to come by - I got mine from Maplins - but it's far more effective than anything else I tried.

i dont think ive got leaky seals, because my car is never wet on the inside when its standing. The only time i get wet is when im driving in the rain and the wipers push water off the screen to the A pillar which then comes in through the top of the window and consequently onto me.

I think its because the glass roof panel isnt seating onto the top of my window properly, as theres also loud wind noise when i drive along. the passenger side is fine. Is there anyway of sorting this out?

The eccentric guide rods may help in those circumstances. They work by physically pulling the t-top down further by relocating the hole the pins slide into.
