Automatic Engines

Post by Rev1Richie »

Hi, can someone tell me what engines were used on the Automatic versions of the Mk2, Were they the same engines that went in a NA, or did they only have 1 engine and that was it.

Also did they ever do a turbo version of the automatic?

Automatic MR2s were NA only.

UK automatics were offered in Rev1 and early Rev2 guise. All were powered by the 3S-FE engine.

JDM automatic cars were offered with the 3S-GE engine for at least until Rev3 (see my profile).

JDM automatic cars were also offered with a BEAMS engine.

I'm not saying they exist but an Automatic GT and GTS turbo does appear on our insurance system :?

That's odd.

From: http://www.mr2dc.com/buyGuideImports.as ... buyerguide

3 engine options - single cam 2.0. UK coupe. No rear spoiler. Only UK version available with auto. Not available after about 92.
Twin Cam 2.0. UK or import. UK is GT. Imports are G or G-Limited. - Available with auto on import.
Turbo. Import only. No auto.

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_MR2

G-Limited with a naturally aspirated engine (N/A) 2.0L 3S-GE engine producing 165PS (163hp/121 kW), an automatic transmission was standard, a manual transmission was optional.
GT with a turbocharged 2.0L 3S-GTE engine producing 225PS (222hp/165 kW), a M/T was the only choice.
GT-S, it came with the same engine and transmission as the GT.

MR2 N/A with a N/A 2.2L 5S-FE engine producing 130hp (up to 135hp in 1993) and an A/T or M/T optional.
MR2 Turbo with a turbocharged 2.0L 3S-GTE engine producing 200hp, the only choice for a transmission being a 5-speed M/T.

As I say, I'm not sure if they exist, but I am looking at them right now on the system!

hmm that sounds like a fun tubby kickdown and a turbo to contend with puts a new meaning to pinned to your seat then again you get a lot of supra's in auto so maybe thay might have. :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:
she's all comming together nicely now after a fair bit of cash spent, not bad for just an n/a now for some body kit i think.

The Caldina has a ~260bhp 3SGTE mated to a four speed auto box, so it's certainly do-able. :thumleft:

But certainly no automatic turbo MR2s from the factory.

There's a tendency for some systems to identify revision 5 cars as Anniversary editions when they're not. Autotrader are often guilty of this!
