Supercharger battery holder

Post by Lee_MR2 »

I have got my supercharger in for its MOT next Thursday and I need to put the battery holder back on that I took off to spray up.

I went to put it back on last night and cant for the life of me get it on or even fit it over the holes that are on the intercooler #-o

It doesnt seem to line up at all over the hole on the passnger side at all a big bit of metal on the intercooler seems to completely block it.

Not sure if i'm missing something obvious here bit im really confused :-k

The front two bolts of the intercooler mounts bolt to the battery clamp itself - have you got it the right way round ?

Yeah I have got it the right way round but the holes dont line up,

They want line up because the hole nearest the passenger side is blocked by a bit of metal on the intercooler.

Not sure if anyone has a picture of it installed, i'm really at a loss with this.

ah so does the holder go underneath the intercooler mounting points and then the screw goes through that then through the tray.

I think I have heartedly tried this so I will give it a go again, because its such a tight space with the battery it was all a bit awkward.

Thats a great help though mate, thanks for the photo, I will give that a go.

I think it's easier to fit the battery retainer if you first completely remove the intercooler

I also found it easier to do fit it without the intercooler in place.

I considered the battery retaining tray to be potentially quite dangerous, you can quite easily move it and short both the pos and neg terminals if your not careful, thought it was quite an awful design.

Yeah it is all a bit cramped in there,

Is it easy to remove the intercooler though I dont want to get more in depth and end up mucking something else up, ha!

Might give it another go with the intercooler in first.

think its two more bolts and some hose straps????

you can then wash out the I/C of its accumulated filth/oil film.....

I've been preaching this one for years, the Mk1 SC battery clamp is an engine bay fire waiting to happen yet most would rather retain the factory originality and die horribly rather than modify it so it is safe.

Yeah its a bit of a poor design,

got the clamp back on now eventually, had to jump start the battery and when I tried to fire the car back up after running it the battery was completely flat #-o

So gonna have to take it all out again and charge the battery, ha

Cant wait to get my SC on the road though for the summer.
