Lower engine mount sizes for turbo? 79 or 83.5mm??

Post by jimGTS »

Ok I've had the annoying task of swapping in new powerflex engine mounts.

From the ad it stated that the rear bush is the same size throughout the na and turbo. Ment to be 79mm.
The front lower bush for the na is ment to be 73mm, and tubby 79mm.

So I order the 79mm kit not thinking I had anything different as my mounts looked completely oem.

I get the front mount out. Turns out I need the 'trd' size mount, which is 83.5mm. Still, I popped in the 79mm mount and chose to return my other unused 79mm mount and swap it for a 83.5mm mount. So I could replace at a later date and pop that 79mm in the rear. Thanks to the guy selling the mounts on eBay to order me the larger size and letting me swap.

Anyway, finally get some time to remove the front mount, and rear mount. The rear was an absolute pita!!! I had previously spent hours trying to get that off. with no success. This time round I decided to remove the whole bracket and mount. Load more bolts in tight places, but finally got it out.
To my horror this is ALSO 83.5mm!!!! Ffs!!

I was led to believe all the rear mounts are the same on all mk2s at 79mm. Now I'm going to have to just suck it up and just pop that 79mm bush in there. As I can't return it as it's been used.

Any other turbo owners had these issues??? What sizes have your mounts needed?? (with the metal sleeve removed).

Not having much luck Jim, my rev3 turbo rear mount is 79mm as is my spare rev1 na rear mount I have also found the same size on a rev2 turbo and na. I think Greeny mentioned a bigger rear mount, it is worth giving powerflex a ring they were very helpful with me.

Thing is the mount is used now. Ie a trip to Wales and back. So altho still great condition, is used. So can't really swap.

I guess powerflex arnt going to want to know, as it's had some use and they'll prob say I should have measured, lol. I prob would have measured it I could have got that rear mount off the other week when I got off the front one. Dam.

I've got that slight middle gap issue again but this time at the rear. Tho it does fit in nice with the sleeve still in the mount. I'll prob just make do :|

You could just buy a secondhand 79mm rear mount to fit it in .

bump a old thread.

I had this problem recently. All engine mount suppliers say the rear is one size so I went ahead and ordered a set of front and rear poly mounts, only to find out both the front and rear is 83.5mm ](*,)

they're going back and being replaced with the correct size powerflex black series :thumleft:

Has any one else noticed the centre sleeve is a loose fit for the throughbolt?
