Rev 3 tubby...gear changing query

Post by stevenb »

I know the clutch on my car is heavier than the N/A rev 2 I had but the gear changes seem to be more difficult to engage in all gears.
There are no whines or rattles (apart from the thrust bearing which occassionally rattles).
Could it be the linkages/bushes need replacing?

I'm sure that's cheap enough to do.

Cheers

When was the 'box oil last changed mate? Is it the right type in there? Check your service history to find out. An oil change made quite a difference to mine when it was last done.

PS. New bushes made a difference also but not as much as the oil.

Bushes will wear, go for toolsteel roller bearings (tenner) there is quite an angle change from 1st to reverse look at S bits Camskill etc.

Cheers guys,

It seemed a little better today....perhaps I'm just getting used to it.

I am sure a new g.box oil change would work.
IIRC it was done about 5 years ago....with a one check since then.

Perhaps when I do it, I'll go for that Redline (I think it's called that anyway) oil.

New bushes sound good too.
I'm popping in to see Luke at Pacific works anyway so I'll bring it up to see what he reckons.

Mine was like that... changed the gear oil a couple of times helped for a while. What made the biggest difference was fitting a new clutch. Dont know why but it felt like a new gear box!

Seems to be getting better the more I use it.
My car had a new clutch in Aug 06 so fairly recent.
Thrust bearing sticks a little but the gear changes seem to be getting better.

Would having a short shift gear change be any better? :-k

MT90 - made a massive difference in mine, until all £75's worth escaped through the failed driveshaft seal :(

I might try MT90 in the future.
I think a new clutch and oil will help first.

MT90 is the upgrade oil for most boxes but be careful if you have a LSD as you also need certain additives I believe. There's info in another thread if you do a search.

No worries Rob.
I'll be speaking to Luke about it when he does all the work for me. :thumleft:
