They are exactly the same motor. The only real difference is the inlet of the 92+ 3sgtes.

i was talking about the GEN1 engine in rev1/2's and gen2 engines in rev3+

Jay

The rev1/2 engine is the gen2 3sgte and the rev3+ has the gen3 3sgte. The early ones as fitted to the st165 celica was the gen1 with only 200hp.

jeez, some people are so picky on here
i think you know what i meant mate

My rev2 has had 2 power runs, first run was:

9PSI
Greddy Exhaust
Gutted CAT
Supra CT26A Turbo
Vent to Atmosphere BOV
K&N Air Filter

192BHP @ flywheel

I then found that my timing was completly out and that the ECU kept trying to conpensate, robbing me over power. It then had a second run, with the following:

15PSI
Blitz NUR Spec R Exhaust
Gutted CAT
Supra CT26A Turbo
Vent to Atmosphere BOV
K&N Air Filter
Iridium Spark Plugs
Timing set to 12d BTDC

232BHP @ Flywheel with 242lbs of tourque.

I've since then fitted a standard recirculating BOV and also have a few more 'little' plans in order. My cars not massivly tuned but I'd love to see 250BHP at the flywheel if I can without things like ECU's, etc. It's quite probable I won't but it gives me something to aim at :D

like peeps have said mate, you should care about flywheel hp, as that can change all the time with different dyno places, thing to look for is whp.
i was dynoed at 240bhp, 244lb of torque with my small mods.
but i ideally want to hit 200whp!!

need to get it on a local roller!
think my timing may be out also!

is it save to set timing to 12degrees??? i heard thats a good limit for the rev2. (10 is standard isnt it???).

what was your wheel hp??

Yeah I know flywheel figures arn't great but they were the ones that stuck in my head :) I couldn't tell you the RWHP figures without digging the sheets out and I have no idea where I put them, lol #-o

12d BTDC is what I was advised at the same time as installing my FCD, Iridium plugs and chaning the boost to 15PSI. I was advised by JJ and I trust him so I'm guessing it must be safe :) I've certainly never had any problems with mine. Tell a lie, the only thing that has gone wrong is through lack of use (yep, I've not driven it much) the iridium plugs got coated in petrol and the car wouldn't start. Still, that was a quick spark plug change to set right.

i heard 12 is ok as well!

but what does 12d BTDC mean by the way??? just so when i take the car somewhere itll get set up right??
im new exhaust and d/p ing it soon, so hopefully i should reach the magic 250bhp at fly.
would like 200whp tho! good target!

BTDC = Before top dead center.

You can do this yourself if you have a timing gun, but if not then let the garage do it. Just ask them to set the timing up to 12 degrees.

Thanks mate :) I've tried to keep it as Jap as possible, I'm not a fan of european styling (all those clear lights make me dizzy) and I'm a big fan of Initial D (and many other anime and manga to that matter) so that has an influence on my styling.

My group of friends are soon to have 2 MR2's (mine included) a mk1 1.6 MX5 J-Ltd and also an RX7 FD3S. We've got 1 MR2 and the MX5, just waiting on the other 2 cars now. We then plan to do a lot of trackdays together :thumleft:

Your motor is looking nice as well Jim, seems very similar to mine in terms of engine, etc.

Also, I hear you've got a J*** UBM plate as well? :)
