[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 3 wiring conversion?

Post by kev_mr2 »

Looking at changing my turbo wiring loom on my rev 2 to a rev3 setup so i can do away with the afm etc.

whats involved with doing this and exactly what parts do i need? is it just a case of getting the loom and all the parts it plugs onto?

If i decide to do it i'll have a blitz access ecu for sale for a J plate rev2

youll need

rev3 ecu
rev3 map sensor
rev3 coil and igniter
rev3 injectors
rev3 IAT and MAT (which replaces the 5th injector)

the loom will need re-pinning at the ECU end....no point replacing it, thats even more work. :thumleft:

i changed the complete loom on mine its not hard mate, you dont need rev3 coil its the same as the rev2 its the ignitor that you need
1) ignitor
2) rev3 o2 sensor(4 wire)
3) air filter temp sensor
4) manifold temp sensor
5) rev3 map sensor

sounds pretty straight forward so might give it a go!

changing to a rev3 setup means i can also run Power FC management doesnt it?

think ill go down this route then. do i need to run rev3 injectors? i dont want to uprate them quite yet as i'll have to get something to manage fuelling aswell

is the 02 sensor just straight swap over from the single wire one on the rev2?

am i right in thinking the map sensor is the part which replaces the AFM from the rev2?

Just asking this as i have a few rev3 parts at hand the now which i can use

also for the time being can i run the rev3 ecu until i get my hands on an apexi FC?

whats the limit i can take the boost pressure to on the standard ecu and rev3 injectors? ive heard its somewhere around 17 or 18 psi

you will need rev 3 injectors, if your changing the complete loom then the 02 sensor is a straight plug in,no that is the air temp sensor, the map sensor is (turbo) pressure sensor the one that sits next diagnostics plug,
the only thing you will need to do with wiring is change a couple of pin outs,on one of the e.c.u plugs as it doesnt come with the engine wiring loom

There is an excellent repin guide on the US mr2oc boards.

I used it to repin my Rev3 harness to run an AEM.

just so i have this right.

Intake Air Temp sensor is located on the intake pipe?

Manifold Air Temp sensor is located where the Rev2 5th injector would be (small pipe from fuel rail to the TB or inlet manifold)?

o2 sensor is in the exhaust?

and map is the small unit with the vacuum hose connected to it which is next to the diagnostic plug?

awesome!

cant wait to get stuck in about it :D

what sort of bhp can i expect to get from the stock injectors etc from the rev 3?

would it benefit from fitting a FPR aswell? Im going to upgrade the In tank pump while the tanks out

Im hoping to acheive around 300 to 320 bhp without having to do too much.

fuel pressure regulator prob not worth doing the standard one is a rising rate so as pressure increases so does fuel, as for the fuel pump yes would def change that , but when doing this you get problems with the rev 2 fuel rail, upgrade the fuel rail i went for a wolfkatz side feed fuel rail ,if i knew what i knew now i would of gone for a top feed version as they can take larger injectors & top feed injectors are cheaper than side feeds

also read this it is very interesting

the wiring diagram on the last link, is that if you are using a Rev 1/2 wiring loom.

even though i am using the Rev 3 wiring loom do i still need to adapt some wires/connections?

yes you still need to adapt some wires not many , you will see with the rev3 wiring loom there are only two plugs for the ecu the other plug is from the chassis wiring loom thats the one you will have to alter slightly

yeah i noticed that when taking the loom out.

that fuel rail link is quite interesting. maybe do that aswell.

Whats the difference between the top feed and side feed. Is the top feed easy to fit?

EDIT. just used common sense lol. take it the fuel delivery position is on top of the rail instead of coming in from the side?

i dont think its any harder to fit mate just you will not be able to use standard rev 3 injetcors as they are side feed
