Running without a bonnet?

Post by Zirax »

Could be a stupid question.... I am due to pick up a new bonnet soon for the mk1. If I take all the carpet and bits of plastic trim that may fly off.... can I run the car without a bonnet? I thought I could, but since then the answers are about 50/50 going yes or no.

no you need a working wash/wipe system to be road legal. having said that if its only over a short distance the chances of a copper doing you for it are minimal.

BLUE 3M MASKING TAPE

and lots of it Make a bonnet out of Tape in strips and then just remove into a sticky ball and drive back with your new bonnet in place :thumleft:

How far is it?

Hmmm, about 50mile :/ Thinking about it more, it's probably van territory for that far. If it was 5 mile up the road I would just drive without :D Very tempted by the tape though :thumleft:

Personally I'd rather not have a bonnet than risk a cardboard one flying up and blocking visibility.

I'd have to go with 'pick it up in another car'! Can't imagine it would be at all fun to drive without a bonnet...

:? What difference would it make? It wouldn't make the car difficult to drive

It would severely affect the handling at speed...and if you're travelling 50miles, some of that will be at speed.

Thanks all, if it was more local then no problem. As it is a bit of a trek I will nab a van :)
