Hobby Horse Mk1 WIP

Post by Sidewinder »

A stone's throw from the Hobby Horse pub in Syston, this Mk1 has just turned up in a residential parking area.

Anyone on here? Looks like it's someone's baby being worked on.

Whereas normally I'm not a huge fan of the Mk1, I think the kit suits the car perfectly, and is in the right proportions unlike some of the other more extreme kits.

I bet it'll look great once the car is painted and some nutty alloys have been added.

Wouldnt say it suits it perfectly, but its certainly one of the better kits [whatever it is] IMO.

Nothing wrong with the wheels already on there IMO.

Stick a note under the windscreen and tell them to get on here :)

Yep - will do that tomorrow. The rest of the car looks pretty standard, but you never know what's lurking under the engine lid. :)

The kit looks to have been done to a really high standard, no joins either - hope it stands up to a few small knocks without any issues.

whoa, well it's different!

How much weight though! Loads by the looks of it.

I like the sides better than the front/rear, but on the other hand I always applaud modding a MK1 8)

hmmmmmmm, I like it. :D

Not keen on the joins being smoothed tho, could cause problems!

OK....that's different...but how low!

I wouldn't like to be following him on my motorbike when he goes over his first speed ramp and leaves his body kit on it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually it's a dilemma the smoothing thing. I didn't have it done on my MK1 kit, but I think it would look a lot better if it was...only trouble being if you have a ding is 'kin expensive to fix...

...and you're right about this car being very low! With that extended nose it's going to be a 'mare over even the slightest incline (speaks voice of experience who used to have a grim time with a lowered MK2 and veilside nose...)

Yeah, pretty sure. It moved from one parking space to another the other day, so someone's doing something with it.

I also put a (waterproof) message on the windscreen earlier this week asking him to join IMOC-UK, but obviously nothing has happened yet. Maybe a looooooooooooooong term project or something! :)

If i saw that at Dover, i'd get on it thinking it was a bloody Hovercraft !!!!!  Hideous, bloody hideous, what a shame a MK1 has to endure an owner who wanted to do this to it :?: , Jinxy

...updated!

Post by Sidewinder »

An update on this Mk1! Whilst charging the battery on my tubby this lunchtime, the owner of the Mk1 in question came over to see me (he only lives on the other side of the road to me) and we had a chat about his car.

It turns out that the bodykit is a one-off, and something that he's done himself. It's just a case of fettling and painting to finish it off. The suspension has already been sorted (I forget which type he mentioned), and he's going to fit 17" wheels to it - which fit perfectly under the arches.
As for the engine, this is being removed and a Mk2 tubby lump is going to resting nicely under the lid.

The owner's a nice bloke as well, although can't join IMOC as he doesn't have the Internet at home. :( I did try, though!

Judging by some of the comments on here, it's not everyone's cup of tea, but has to be seen 'in the flesh' to appreciate the quality of the finish so far. Also nice to see some fresh life brought to a Mk1.
