nice progress, my car is in bits atm im fitting the same manifold as you've got, don't know if its XS power but its looks identical notice much difference with it on; obviously more so on a such a well setup car as yourself i would imagine?

ps how much louder has it made it? i'm getting a bit worried that its going to make mine unbearable...ah well...we do these things!

its hard to say how much louder it would make a particular exhaust, I wouldnt know either as i fitted a totally different exhaust than before, so cant really compare :thumleft:

Got it taxed for 6 months today, feel's soooo good being back in an MR2. The winter modifications are doing well and the exhaust is such an improvement, my ears are very thankfull! it sounds nice and purposefull, not overly loud but turns peoples heads still :thumleft:

Got some good news too, ill post pics next week

Not updated this for a while...

After cracking the ringland in about 7 places on number 1 piston and melting the cylinder top #-o , the engine was pulled out, stripped, the bores were re-honed, new pistons were put in there with fresh rings and a full toyota gasket set. Luckily there was no debris or bore damage, so I got away with it without too much of a pounding to my wallet

ready for some tlc =;

pic of the cylinder with the damaged piston still in there...

the piston out, some nice cracks there
Image

a quarter of the ringland just fell out...

with it all re-assembled what better way to give the engine a run-in, than a trip to the lakes?!

Image

Craig/Redmr2 had a run out too :thumleft:

The car behaved well and feels back to normal, there is about 500miles or so left of the run in procedure and then I can let it rev again 8)

Top job mate, good to see the car back to her former glory. The run to the lakes was awesome :thumleft:

Thanks for that comedy moment when you fell off the chair with a helping kick from Stacey

Any normal person would have got off the wet grass straight away, but Dale? Nah, he stays down and finishes his beer LMAO

Awesome pics too 8)

You were very lucky not to damage the bore Dale. Top marks for getting it back on the road so quickly. :+:

I guess you have found what over did it last time?

Cheers Lauren, The detonation looks to have been caused by a duff HT lead on #1 cylinder, and that due to it misfiring under nitrous load it weakened the piston, then finally let go just in normal NA form. I have some new NGK leads on there now.

Another possibility that Peter @ s-bits said that may have contributed was the lack of a catch can on there. I had the stock breather pipe set up on there, and peter said its possible that due to the uprated power and therefore increased blowby gasses produced, there was more 'dirty' air being pushed back into the intake effectively lowering the octane of the fuel contributing to det :-k So im getting a catch can put in there once its arrived from the USA
