[Mk2] [Generic] Rewiring standard active system - any point?

Post by rodenal »

I'm changing the head unit in my car as

a) it's crap, no bass and

b) it's not been properly wired in in the first place.

The original wiring block has been butchered at the hu plug end and at the speaker side of things too as the previous owner has wired in their own front and rear speakers bypassing the active system.

The unit i'm gonna get has a good set of pre-outs on the back so i was thinking about wiring the original system back in, albeit with almost completely new cable.

Is there any reason i shouldnt do this and also is it a bit of a daft idea? It looks fairly straight forward to do and i reckon i have all the info i need from previous threads on here r.e wiring it back in.

Only problem i can forsee is that one of the components is bu88ered and i wont find that out until i've wired it back in.

I dont fancy spending money on an amp at the moment although i might do in the future as im assuming the stock stuff is a bit gash, so would i be better off just running the sub from the head unit sub out for now and forgetting about the rest of the system?

I've never been too keen on the active systems and have always bypassed it, makes things alot more simple! If you want a simple good sounding system then a get a set of comps like Infinity Kappa's (£45 and direct fit) and run them off your headunit

I reckon you're right

After a bit of thinking about it that's exactly what i've decided to do, I am going to use the factory sub but probably wont wire in the rear speakers.

Got my eye on a set of infinity comps too which should go nicely
