[Mk2] [NA] Hesitation around 2k to 3k rpm. Only when wet though.

Post by No_more_GT4 »

Afternoon guys, hope you're all having a good weekend :thumleft:

I've noticed this issue I'm having with my UK rev 3 N/A. It only happens when the weather has been really wet. Dry, she drives perfecto :thumleft:

The car starts fine no problem, but when driving between 2500 & 3500 rpm, the car will hesitate in every gear unless I stick my foot to the floor & get past the 3.5k/4k mark.

This is fooking annoying  as most of my driving is done around the 3k mark.

I'm thinking that due to the problem only happening when the weather is raining, the water is dripping through the engine cover & onto something in the engine compartment.

But what could the water be dripping onto/into :?: Ignition leads, dizzy cap, something electrical, a plug somewhere perhaps :-k :?:

Would a squirt of WD40 solve the issue :?: .

The problem only happens when it's been raining.

If anyone has experienced the same problem I'd like to hear how you solved it.

I remember someone on here made a 'rain' divertor from an icecream lid for the holes in the engine cover, so the rain wouldn't drip onto the engine.

Thanks in advance for any help :thumleft:

i used to have this problem on my G-limited N/A
you are correct its the rainwater dripping onto the Distributor cap, the water gets into the uppermost plugs on the top of the dizzy, i used to fix it with a squirt of WD40 into the plug ends then refit em to the dizzy, it keeps the water out.

Ideally you'd wanna make up a rainsheild to cover the dizzy, i have seen other owners just fix some plastic sheeting to the underside of the engine lid in this area, or you can totally wrap the dizzy in a carrier bag and secure with a rubber band for the "pikey" look

Thanks for your reply Razor. I've gone for the 'pikey' look at the moment   & I'll have to make up a rain shield during the week out of some thin metal sheeting or something to that effect.

Thanks again,

Richard

Why not buy a turbo engine cover, as it has a better (plastic) rain cover underneath which would keep out water and enhance your car too, they go for about £50 on ebay.... just a thought.
